Congrats! Both colors have their pros and cons. I have basses with both. If you are going with an ash body then my vote would be trans red. I love seeing the ash grain through the finish.

I weighed all the red options myself: well, CAR, trans, and Dakota. Pretty tough, because red is difficult to reproduce well in photos. With a fancy figured top I would have chosen trans red... and I may have gone with trans red over ash as well... and I think trans red looks cool over alder. But I decided to go with CAR/mint on my alder/Brazilian P5 (ordered back in Feb).
I think you'll be happy regardless. Pre-congratz on your Will Lee!

especially, dakota, since muddy waters used it, tho people say its a "metallic" looking red ala CAR, but that's debated.

but as you go from CAR to dakota to fiesta, the red hue becomes more and more tomato like. something to think about.
