Dude, it only matters if you plan to sell the bass. I figure, at this point, it's probably not a big problem. :)

Yeah, it was funny back then. I have a buddy that has a 74 J (or close to that) and he had put EMG's in it back in the day. We all thought that was SO cool, and that it was such an improvement. Now, I cry a bit every time I see that bass. Of course, some of the new vintage wound single coils sound darn good, so all is not lost.

However, messing with a P Bass... IMO never a good thing:D They are what they are, and they are wonderful if that's your thing.

So true in so many ways. If we'd only known then what we know now as more mature people. Oh well. :hmm:

But... the same is true for PJ's. :)

Now, if you had to alter the P personality to make it one, which is thankfully not the case, I'd be more objectionable. :)

+1 A lot of the 'production' PJ's even have a J body... really 'their own thing' to me.

Waaaait a minute...

Maybe I missed something, but I thought you just added the J pickup and the preamp, but the original P was still in there, right? If so, all you need to at least get the sound of your old P back is a passive bypass for the preamp, and a vintage tone control! Or, with some creative wiring, you could take the preamp out, and make it a stacked vol/vol and passive tone, still just the two pot holes, etc. Lotsa' totally practical things you can still do to get her back!!
