You know, I remember this like it was yesterday. Bill Dickens was at the Conklin Booth slapping his ass off for 4 days and Paul Chandler was across the isle playing the Theramin for 4 days. I literally wanted to get a gun and blow my brains out! ;)

I knew you had posted specs before, but didn't remember where to look in this Loooooooooong thread. Thanks for the reminder. Wow! I would also choose white pearl Pickguard and birdseye maple FB. Your specs are Stellar! I'd love a bass exactly the same. Either Trans red, or Trans Blue. I might however opt for a nice spalt/flamed maple top for the one I am dreaming up.

Damn you Sadowsky, DAMN YOU. I was in at bass central today. I have had bad experiences with P/Js up to this point. I recently tried and really liked the fender american deluxe P with the stacked J in the bridge. I was curious as to how the sadowsky PJ sounded for nearly a grand more... and it sounded about a grand's worth better. The J pickup was ABSOLUTELY silent.

Gah if only the metro line came with a 5 string P/J. I still might get a 4 anyway... haven't been digging my marcus jazz lately...

So you think the Humcancelling pups are the way to go? It was such a difficult decision. I wonder though, if I don't quite like them, what else would fit right in?

If you play with both PU's full on most of the time, then Sad Single Coils would be quiet, and offer a bit more vintage vibe. But if you like dial to the bridge, or Neck, and you don't want hum, the Sad Hum cancelling PU's would be my first choice. That's just one players opinion however.

That's "pick dust"? I thought it was some of the "magic dust" that they sprinkle on every bass at the Sadowsky factory :D.

Seriously Gilles, that looks really intriguing. I can only just imagine how it must sound, but it's obviously working well for you, which is the main thing.

If (when ;)) I ever do seek out another Sadowsky, I'll probably be looking for a Modern 24 4 string, with those pickups. Not sure if I'd want them in the "standard Modern" position, or the "Jazz" position - both appeal to me.

Congrats on the mods anyway. That bass has come a long way in a short time :smug:.

I have to say that the Sadowsky SCs are very, very quiet. I don't know if it's due to the own pickups or to the stellar shielding on the basses.

It was an agonising decision for me too (whether to get the single coils or the humcancelling). In the end I went for the single coils mostly due to the fact that I pretty much always play with both pick-ups full on. However when I pan the pick-ups I notice that in most situations the hum is barely noticeable. I'm sure that it would not be audible live and when recording, it would only be audible if the bass is soloed and no note is played. The shielding is really good.

I went for the single coils because I wanted a vintage vibe. In essence I wanted the jazz bass on steriods without it moving too far from the fender jazz bass tone (which is also why I opted for the ultra vintage model). However, I cannot remember what the humcancelling pick-ups sound like but I seem to remember that they weren't far off from the single coils.

I think the coolest thing about this is actually how small the differences are. I actually like the HC pickup better on the bridge PU. In slap mode, I just hear the SC being a little bit more open sounding. But if you were not doing a direct AB, I really find the differences to be very small, which pleases me.

The recording conditions weren't the best, but I think it represents the slight differences in tone between both sets. They both sound great.
