I'm not exactly sure why you are asking, but if your concern is whether or not the PJ5 can closely emmulate the "old-school" P-Bass tone, then have no worries. It absolutely can.

The NYC PJ that I had copped a KILLER P-bass vibe by panning to the front PU and popping out the passive switch. Of course, it did much more than that as well.

The "out for delivery" bass I noted is an Alder/Morado PJ5 (Metro). I expect it to be of the same ilk, but there are some variances that ought to play into the equation. The NYC was a reversed P. The NYC was ash/maple.

But, I still expect a similar experience.

And I've played both ash/maple (both NYC and Metro) and alder/brazilian rosewood models. I haven't yet played one with a morado board, but I'm sure that'd also sound fantastic, because I've played a different brand of Precision 5 that had a morado board (alder body) and it was really great.

What a nice thing to find in my office when I got back from lunch!!!!

I couldn't help but tune it up and steal a few licks on it right away. It's nice. Granted I only played it for 5 minutes, but it seems to have a different feel than either of the NYCs I had. Could be that it needs to be played. Could be things have been tweaked a bit in the last few years. VERY, VERY first impression was that it felt great in my hands. I'm looking forward to the weekend. I have rehearsal and a gig.

Also, I would be leaving something out if I didn't plug Bass San Diego here at the Sadowsky Club thread. They are the guys that hooked me up with this bad boy.

Chris and George are EXTREMELY easy to work with and made the whole experience very comfortable and enjoyable.

If you are interested in west coast bass shopping or having one shipped, they are second to none in terms of buying experience!!

Thats great. I quit myself a few years ago after 20+ yrs. I feel much better and have more cash in my pocket. When you finally get it whipped you feel free.

Well, I did 60-70 minutes on the Modern 5. I am NOT going to get ahead of myself and start spewing out amazing superlatives, but it is pretty much exactly what I was hoping for, and frankly, expecting.

First of all, it weighs barely over 7.5 lbs. It's easy to wear!! It looks amazing. The Amboyna top is just ridiculous.

I really am impressed with the playability even with the expectations that I had. The Brazilain RW fb feels so nice under your fingers. I have never played anything with this fb wood before. I get now why Roger made the comments he did about some other types of RW. This FB is really nothing like any RW fb I have ever played. It almost has some high-grade ebony character in terms of feel and the texture of the wood and the "oiliness" of wood. The strings behave very much the same way as playing a ebony board. But, tonally, it doesn't have that "sing" like ebony. It has a bit less harsh, warmer vibe. VERY nice feel. The neck is, well, a Sadowsky. It cetainly the kind of bass that you could gig all night on without worry.

Tonally, well, it's definitely interesting!!! It's not really as "hi-fi" as you might expect. It is certainly warmer than a Modulus Q5. Although, it is as "quick" and has the ultra-clear response that I just love. It has a lot of the Q5 characteristics that I liked and doesn't have some that I didn't. I don't know if it is the wood combo of 'hog and the Brazilian, but it actually has a nice, warm mid presence to it.

It does have an ultra bright, almost over-lying, treble response to it that takes some taming. The VTC helps, but I did dial a bit of top off my amp.

The other really interesting thing about this bass is that the controls seem MUCH more sensitive. That is, only the slightest bump of any of them SIGNIFICANTLY alters the tone. Whereas, with the PJ and JJ Sadowskys I have played, you have more room. The slightest bump of the bass knob makes this bass BOOM! The pan is also super sensative.

My favorite tone so far is actually dead flat with everything straight up.

I'm glad I bought this. I like it very much so far. I get to rehearse for a few hours with it tomorrow. I am eager to hear it in the mix.

However, again, all you need to do is keep any eye on them over time to make sure the locking is still tight and firm. Nice, small, lightweight hanging stands, if a bit on the 'less beefy' side.
