It's all good.
It's your bass, make it sound like YOU want it to sound like.

The few times I personally played basses with that pre, I wasn't impressed.
Sometimes doing too much is just that, doing too much.
Then again, I also really don't like the Aguilar OPB-2. And it's as simple as the Sadowsky pre!

Yeah, I know it's not. I was just saying it was standard on the WL, as opposed to optional on a regular Sadowsky 5 (NYC or Metro).

While I've been impressed with the quality/workmanship of the Audere, I've never been impressed with the tone. IMHO, both Roger and Carey's preamps are worlds better. I personally wouldn't even consider it.

I'd be surprised if there are many who have done this (and would admit it ;) ) for a couple of reasons:

While the whole Sadowsky bass is as good as it gets, there is something to be said about the preamp and how it somewhat defines the Sadowsky mojo.

Secondly, while there truly are keepers out there, I always have to keep in mind that there will come a day when I either want or have to sell it. Even if you really like it, it would no doubt cost you money on the re-sale market.

I think if I was simply unhappy with the behavior of the preamp, I would sell the bass and get something else. I wouldn't alter a Sadowsky. But, hey man. It's your bass. If swapping the preamp improves your experience with it, have at it!!!

I had one for about a week, and the preamp , imho, IS the Sadowsky sound and in small part the hum cancelling pups.

And y'all compare the Audere to Nordstand and Sadowsky, yet the Audere is a COMPLETELY different animal, so to compare them is absolutely spurious.

If you want your Sadowsky to have a huge pallete and be able to change colors, Audere it. But you'll lose that Sadowsky sound in the process as their preamps color the sound significantly.

I'm with you on that I'm sure would not modify a bass in this price range.

In actuality its not a Sadowsky but a Valenti that Sadowsky pre and soapbars in the modern positioning.

If the Audere does not work out then I will switch back, but I'm not expecting that. I will post my results.

This would be my plan if I do decide to pull the trigger and order a PJ4. I've done some searches to find out if something that is similar is available.

I'm really surprised that more builders don't offer this option. I'm really surprised that Fender never used these in their re-issues. It's a small thing but I love the look with rosewood.

The anti Audere in this thread is encouraging me to make a video for Youtube with the new pre.

Vic and Chef it would be great if you guys could come out to the GTG in New England (late March or April) we are still working out the dates check some of the unholy modifications.;):cool::hiding:

I think our ivory Micarta dots come as close to the clay look as possible.
I recently tried the clay dots that Callaham sells and thought they were inferior to our micarta dots.

If you know of a good clay dot that is not on my radar, let me know.
