It's funny, I don't automatically subscribe to the threads I post in, must be an option I didn't select.

How many people have experimented with going from the .45 set of strings to the .40?

I have a bit of arthritis(not sure it will help) and I am thinking of switching. Any feedback out there? I do like the deep sound of heavier strings.

I noticed someone like Sting, who is a big dude with big hands uses .40 and also someone kinda small like Tal Wilkenfeld uses them also, what say you?

I have been using the 5 string light gauge Sadowsky strings for quite a while now on my Sadowsky , i really like them , i like how the B string is a bit smaller , don't know if it makes it any easier to play

Well, we do that only the last day of work. We sneak away from the Christmas party and hide in the conference room but then some people find us! It was a BIG surprise when the Boss (Mr. E - himself) found us and enjoyed it but then said we needed to wrap it up because he was trying to get everyone to go home!

We have a few musicians - not all in that photo. The drummer is actually a bassist and he is recording with his band. The other 2 guitarists are hobbyists like me.

But, right now, it is just myself and the guy standing.

I've been playing bass for about 6 years. I've dabbled with guitar, tenor sax, and piano. I miss the sax.

I've used 40's but it was on a Spector. I could definitely feel the difference. But I do prefer the 45.

I should have said that I have the Blue SS .45 on now

After trying a couple of different sets, I have SS 40s on the modern. It also came to me with 45s. I personally don't think you lose tone with the 40s, and I like the feel much better.

I like all of the Sadowsky strings so far that I have tried, but the 40s are my preference. If I could have it perfectly, I would have the 40s with the 130 B from the 45 set. It feels a little stiffer, which I like on the B.

I'm terms of nickel v. SS, I don't notice much difference in tension/stiffness.
The nickels are slicker, but respond essentially the same under the fingers.

OMG i played SAX for 7 years, holy cow crazy how we gravitated towards the low end....hahahahhah.

I received Blackie in 2005, while Whitey and Red are 2010.

The Brazilian board on Red is just amazing. I like the spiderweb vibe too, but the reddish tones and straight grain on mine are sweet. Unfortunately my phone camera didn't pick up the reddish tones (I'll have to try again under incandescent or natural light rather than fluorescent), but trust me, this board is a perfect match for the CAR paintjob.

I don't think there is one, so you're not missing anything. You just have to watch for the link to the next thread, or find it yourself and then manually subscribe to each one from the menu or by posting. This forum software either doesn't support thread linking, or it's not configured, or maybe no forum software does.

Yeah, you can select that as an option. Go under options and look for this..

I know how you feel Tom. I had the same 93' Modern 5 only with a quilt top and maple board. I got it in 1999 and played it till last year. I am LOVING my NYC Vintage 5! I just wish I could have afforded to keep both! Now I'm gassing for a 24 fret Vintage 5 maybe P/J..Does it ever stop? haha!

I've slowly made the move from .45s to .40s - all my Sadowskys are strung with 40-100 nickel Sunbeams (with a .130 on the B for the 5s).
I have a lingering RSI problem in both wrists. The .40s are easier for sure. Plus I like how they sound and feel, and they're fun to bend like beckham

If you want really light/low tension the TI Jazz Rounds are as low tension as they come. I tried a 5 string set on my Fretless Sadowsky and the combo didn't really work. I love them on my 66 Jazz though.
You need a pretty light touch, but they are incredibly responsive and musical strings, and they feel like nothing else on the market. Not for everyone...

Just done a quick recording with my NYC bass and check out how's the performance on recording. I just love it!!!!! (Neglect the loose playing )

Bass (Single Coil, fairly new Sadowsky Blue Label Nickel 125-40) - TC Electronic Konnekt48 Interface - Apple Logic (No EQ'ing and effect added)

Fingering - PU blend slightly to bridge position, tone full on, no bass/tre boosted
Slapping - PU blend center, tone full on, 10% bass/tre boosted

Nope. I know about that, and that's not what I'm talking about.

What I'm talking about is some advanced feature (that I don't even know if it exists) that would take people subscribed to thread x and automatically subscribe them all to thread x+1 when it was created. I know TB doesn't support this. I'm not sure if any web forum does, but I can't guarantee it.
