Thanks man, I'm really pleased with it! Having owned and played quite a few of the models, new that I preferred the Basic shape, weight and neck to the Californias. The black KT5 was my first alder bodied one though, and I was surprised how much difference there was to the Ash versions. Around 1lb lighter in weight, and a more rounded sound with slightly less aggressive top and bottom end, and more low-mid growl (which suits me just fine! ). I've always liked white basses, so it seemed like the obvious choice for the custom order. I went for an ebony board because I wanted to keep the white/Black colour scheme going.
I'm actually trying to sell the black one at the moment to fund another custom build, but I think I'm going to have to withdraw it because it feels and sounds so good! It's nicely " played in" without being worn.

I have a Sandberg JJ5 bass and find the output really quiet, even in active mode. There is basically no difference in output between the active and passive mode. Which is normal with a Glockenklang preamp (I was told). I also used to think that active basses were louder than passive basses. I was suprised that I had to turn my gain really high on my Markbass and the signal still didn't reach the cliping volume. My Fender passive J bass was a bit louder than my Sandberg is.
Do any of you guys owning Sandbergs have the same experience? I mean, that the basses have low output...Or maybe I just have a faulty preamp
Anyway...Here's a pic of my bass and amp...Really happy with them both...
I had the same problem with one of mine, and it turned out to be the pickup height. Didn't think it would make such a dramatic difference, but 1-1.5mm sorted it out completely! Sandberg told me that they usually set the neck pickup about 5mm from the strings, and the Bridge pickup about 4mm away from the strings. How do yours measure up?

I think this is pretty normal, I believe that the volume pot is a different type of potentiometer to the others, and you do usually find that pots with dual functionality suffer a little wobble.

I own a Terrabass but hope sometime to scratch enough cash together for a Fretless Custom or another Terrabass. Can't decide. Like you described the Basic being the most preferred Sandberg for you I feel the same for the Terrabass. But I imagine if I owned a Custom I would probably get used to the differences easily. Every Sandberg I have played until now felt very appealing.

Well I've tried quite a few different incarnations of the Basic and California series, but I've never had the opportunity to try a Terrabass or Custom (I would love to have a go on a Custom!). You're right though, they all seem to have that sandberg feel, even though they all feel a bit different. I loved the California PM4 I had, but in the end I swapped it for another Basic, because it was heavier and the neck (despite being superb) just wasn't as perfect for my hands as the neck on a Basic. Am I right in thinking that the Terrabass is pretty similar to the Basic, but the neck is quite a bit thicker to accommodate the BEAD tuning?
As for helping out, I've amassed quite a bit of knowledge about Sandberg in the last few years, so I'll help out wherever possible!
Sounds to me like you've got some copper screening or graphite paint somewhere it shouldn't be, making a connection and this draining the battery. I had the same problem once, and it turned out to be some graphite paint which had run down inside the jack hole and made contact with part of the jack socket. I carefully sanded it out, and had no problems thereafter.
There's no way an alkaline battery should be draining that quick!

Looked at it a few times before and if you lived closer to me you'd have probably heard from me by now. Got to say, you've made it sound (sonically) very attractive I tend to boost low-mids on my ash-bodied Laklands to get the tone I like.

Hey man! Yeah I'm really agonising over what to do with it, it feels and sounds soooo good, but I've got GAS for a Basic/Basic Ken Taylor with a maple board, and in a brighter finish (possibly cherry sunburst). If it's only about what it looks like though, perhaps I'm being a fool and would really regret letting this one go.....
here we are, as promised, my new California TM5 blueburst, swamp ash body, maple fingerboard with balck dots and matched headstock, I'm so happy with my new bass guitar!!!! Can I have a number?

yeah, I saw some transparent pickguard in other models, so I asked fo a TM pickguard and they did it
Anyways, I'm on the market for a new Sandberg bass with some slight custom specifications, but it's a pain in the a** to get a proper price quote, and answers from music shops.
I would think being in Europe would make it easier. They're really hard to come by in the U.S.
It's not that easy. I've sent a few e-mails to german shops, they gave me unrealistic prices, some didn't reply, and the only one that gave me a proper price quote doesn't reply when I tell them I'm ready to order.
I've given up trying while here in the USA
Next year I will be in Germany with my German friend - and shopping Sandbergs is what I am really looking forward to
