I used my VM5 last Sunday in a church auditorium that seats about 150 and will get to play it again in a larger auditorium that seats about 1000 - just finished practice tonight. Those two beefy pickups in that location give a real solid tone with the right mix of fat and definition. It punches well with the kick drum and sits just right in the mix. We did a soulful gospel number with piano, bass, drums and vocal in the smaller auditorium and the piano player said "Man that low end has guts, great tone." The larger auditorium has subs which are often too hot below 80 Hz so I play the low strings lighter and toward the bridge to keep the low end even. The Sandberg was outstanding at keeping the low end tight with good pitch definition. This bass is working out well. :bassist:

Beautiful finnish with the grain texture underneath! Is that high gloss or matt?

It’s high gloss , and it looks trans black or purple depending on the room.

I'm wandering what a matt finnish looks like up close, does anybody have any matt finnish sandberg and some pictures that can post here?

This is a blueburst matte finish. You can feel the woodgrain. I don’t know how it looks when it isn’t a burst finish though.

Thank you! Not sure if I like it more this way or with high gloss. Seems too much clear for my taste.

any of you guys have the push/pull active/passive function on your basses? if so could you shoot me a pic of the pot/wiring? i have had the bass i posted above for quite a while and have never tried to put it into passive as its not my bag. i was bored the other day and tried to engage/pull the knob up but it wouldn't budge. per sandberg this exact bass does have the active/passive feature but maybe the previous owner swapped out the pots/functionality.

on a side note i have another sandberg that got delivered today just waiting to be unboxed at home :)

Can’t get to mine to take any pics, but I do recall one of mine being very stiff almost seized. Once I got it to pull up a few times it got easier and I sprayed a little contact cleaner and all was well.

Anyway, come on man.... let’s see the new bass!!!!

Just got this Ken Taylor Basic 5. Older model from 2003. Serial number 2165. Sounds amazing and I haven't changed the ancient strings or really set it up yet! Definitely gotta swap that bridge out-new ones are much better. Only downside is it's over 10lbs so it will have to be a studio bass (seller said it wasn't heavy... :bored:). Too bad because it would sound so good onstage. IMG_4852.
