I've had a LOT of custom, one off, first run...etc pedals and never had one catch fire. I had one blow up because I did something wrong, that's it. Maybe tubes are more risky? I dunno.

If you're just looking for another od pedal or something, there's cheaper and better options. This is a $2000 amp sound crammed in a $700 box. If that amp has the sound you want this is the most cost effective way to get it. Turn your midrange solid state into a tube beast. Price is a pill to swallow but if you love the sound, there's no substitute.

If you're discouraged about paying for something that a few people have had an inconvenient experience with, it's gotta be hell car shopping :)

Guys, let's not forget how amazing it sounds. My plan was not to come on here and talk bad on the meatsmoke pre. But someone did say that they had the same problem as me ( the volume cutting out when engaging the boost.) If this happens, contact Ben right away. He will fix it. Don't wait, it's just gonna keep happening. I thought it would be beneficial to put that information out there.

Just chiming in to say my pedal has performed flawlessly since I've had it - but yy Meatsmoke head that arrived last month some squealing, weird issues with sound. Ben replaced the entire chassis and told me he's had problems with the pre-amp tubes being faulty to begin with - not sure if those are the same JJ's that mjac28 had? :confused:

Two words: Lifetime warranty.

In my case, Ben was covering for another manufacturer to ensure that his product remains superior. And it is. That Meatsmoke head is the best-sounding - and the most versatile - tube-head I've ever heard.

mjac - that is a drag. Glad you caught it, and glad you're ok.

I get what you're saying. I truly do. I don't have an issue with the price point, but it is hard to swallow. I've spent thousands of dollars on pedals before, and will again. I have a B7K currently and thought about flipping that to try this out, but am apprehensive because of some of the issues. The lifetime warranty does put me more at ease though.

I'd like more info on what's going on with the few that screwed up. Sure it's going to happen from time to time, I get that. I really do. I also get that this is a highly condensed version of the amp, which I wish I could swing btw. Killer sound.

I was just saying it made me nervous.

Oh and I don't have any problems car shopping. I know every car I'm going to buy is going to eventually break. :)

Being a long time admirer of the MS, not (yet) an owner, my favourite application of the amp would have to be with Trap Them. Their bass player has a modest mention on the players page of the Verellen website, but the sound shines through an already massive guitar sound. A good example is here

Here's how I'm enjoying my Verellen (double posted at Jule Monique). I go from my bass to a splitter. One signal goes to the Verellen and into the return of the Carvin BX500 (500 watts) and into a BRX 2x10 Neo for the drive channel. The other goes to the Monique and into the return of the Carvin BX1200 (1200 watts) and into a BRX 4x10 for the clean channel. I love this setup. FWIW, the bass is a Bluesman Vintage Slab Precision (inspired by the 1966 Fenders in the UK) - it's amazing as well. Thanks!

Recorded some drum tracks yesterday for a 6 song EP. Used a Sansamp for the bass scratch tracks. Was sad.

Luckily we are not keeping the bass takes. By the time the drums are mixed and edited and its time to do guitars and bass my MS rack pre should be here.

Man, that is a great looking studio!

I recorded once in an old train station that was converted into a studio. The old wood and brick in that place really did something to the sound. There was a large room that had the best natural reverb I've ever heard. Seeing the wood in the studio pics you posted reminded me of that place.

I saw them with Circa back in November. http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f30/minus-bear-930569/ They're show is so raw since they do nearly all their samples live, but incredibly tight at the same time. I was going to see them again tomorrow night, but I can't get a sitter :( They'll be close again in May, so I'll probably make that show.

Definitely worth the cost and effort to get out and see them. And Cory's Meatsmoke sounds sooooooo good when it fills the room. Bass you can feel all over.
