College room problem..

During the first two weeks of school, I and 145 other transfer students were put up in a hotel a few miles from the school since Housing ran out of dorm space. They started filling in vacancies last week and I was able to get into one of the suites on campus.

Here's the problem: my suitemates (except for my actual roommate) are all frat guys who are in party mode 24/7. They go out to party every single night except for Sunday night, and come back loudly every morning around 3 am, sometimes with girls or other friends in tow. Then they hang out in the common room, usually blasting rap or watching a movie with the surround sound cranked to 10, or playing video games until maybe 5 or 6 am until they finally pass out.

I haven't been able to get to bed until 5 am every night that I've been here. My sleep cycle is totally messed up, and I know this is going to start affecting my work too. The guys self-admittedly say that they "go to classes enough just to scrape by", so they don't really worry about attending their classes or doing homework, except major projects or tests. However, I think this may start affecting my school work negatively. I still need to go to class every morning, and my work load is piling up.

I can talk to my RA or Housing, but right now it's impossible for them to get me a different room since they're still trying to fill vacancies from the waiting list at the hotel.

Any ideas?

ask the college to put u back in the hotel and pout someone on the waiting list in your room, and then wait for another place to open up for u.

or do what i did, rent a house off campus with people who are serious about their school work.

The problem is that I don't have a car here, and the hotel is several miles away, so it's impossible to walk or ride a bike to campus (you actually need to get on a stretch of highway to get to the school). This would be the same problem with off campus housing. Also, they have already told me when they first offered me this room that if I reject it, I will not get another offer for the rest of the semester.

i take 2 buses to school each morning, class starts at 9, i get up at 6:40, but thats what it takes, u can always find a way if your desperate enough for education.

There aren't any buses around here that stop by the school. The only solution I can think of ride-wise is to take a cab, but that would get really costly. When I was at the hotel I was getting rides with my roommates who both had cars, but that was getting difficult to maintain since our schedules were very different.

True, not like it's high school where you might get branded and shunned.

You are paying for this education. Would you let them dance on your car or scratch up your instrument.

The problem is that these guys are stuck in that high school mentality. They claim themselves to be "all that is man" but the crap they pull is immature and childish. They constantly trash talk other people behind their backs, talk about how and what they did to some passed out drunk sorority girl the night before, and loudly spew other misogynist, homophobic, and racist filth. Although they've been decent to me, they treat everybody who is not a member of their fraternity lower than garbage. My actual roommate is not in their "circle", and got dropped in with them by random sorting. He's basically their punching bag and they bully him to no end. He just takes it and actually almost invites it, as if them bullying him will somehow get him to fit in with them. It's pretty sickening to watch.

I know that if I do speak up, I had better have an open dorm already available for me to move into, or it would be a total nightmare.

You should have lived with a relative and chose a school closer to home.

Quiet isn't how I would describe a dorm. Now in some colleges they have "quiet" dorms.

But going around with a "woe is me" attitude and not trying to get something done isn't going to help either.

When I was living at the hotel, it was actually a lot quieter. My roommates and I became friends and they were really respectful, great guys.

I am trying to find a solution, that's why I posted this to ask for help. I'm trying to narrow down the possible solutions though.

If this is the case the talk to an RA.

If the RA can't do anything, then talk to the head of your residence.

If that doesn't get you anywhere, go the university's administration.

There's a heirarchy, as there is with any complaint mechanism, just see it through to the top and things will change.

Or you can wait for them to all flunk out after 1st semester.
