US: West Colorado Club

Whew, I got to see Garrett Sayers Trio for the first time yesterday. I love Sayers playing and tone. I think I like the trio more than The Motet (and I love The Motet). Does anyone know if he still gives bass lessons? I'm going to start by transcribing a few solos. Love his solos and the double stops are killer.

Also saw The New Mastersounds. They played one of the best sets I've ever seen. No vocals and no horns and they're so tight they don't need them. One of those days that makes you feel charmed to live in CO...

All, I'm sorry I'll miss this one. Doing to obligatory Mt. Rushmore road trip with the family. Never been there, so I'm actually kind of excited...

Funky left for the Phillipines today, but I did get a few emails in with him before he left...

I mentioned to him that we all brought gear last time, and he said that the store may get pretty crowded if everyone brings amps, but it sounds like we're cool to bring other gear. I'm planning on bringing the Carvin SB5k fretless I just got and my Stambaugh 6'er, and I think it'd be cool for people to bring pedals/pedalboards to check out... I'll bring my main board (and maybe my second, if I can get it put back together by then), and I know Dan's board is SHARP. They've got quite a few nice amps at Premier Bass, so it's not like we won't have rigs to play through.

Also, and this is key:
Make double sure to rsvp to funky at the email he previously listed... we're working on getting some food catered in (probably something like Qdoba). We need to know how many people will be there so we can get enough food! Nom nom nom!

Sweet deal! I'm looking forward to feeding some GAS and checking out everyone's stuff in person. All these pics on the screens are such a tease!

I'll likely have both my basses with me and take my new one in to begin with but will gladly let anyone see my old one too if they ask :)

I'm a good little Bee and sent my email RSVP ;)

Dope. I've never played a USA Spector. I think Dan-o might have had one at one point, but I didn't play it.

Not a bad idea. Here's what's what to get us started, I'll be happy to keep it going.

While we're all there, you guys will want to make sure to play the Lakland Pbass that Dan did some customizing on... WOW. (it's the "Inca Silver" one with a black pickguard/headstock). He also just set up a Modulus fretless that's pretty sweet, and there are two Fender Bass VI's there that sound KILLER. Makes me wish I could play guitar!

Too bad you won't be there brother, but Mt. Rushmore is pretty cool. Been hanging out in the Black Hills since I was a li'l pup. It's seen some major change, but it's pretty cool. The ice cream at the little cafe they have there is pretty darn good, and catch the little history thing they do about Gutzon Borglum. Those guys were NUTS when they were carving the mountain... hanging off the side by basically a seat belt. Eeesh.

While your out there, Crazy Horse is pretty cool too. Keystone is fun for "tourist trap" type shops... if you go, make sure to hit the taffy shop on the main drag. I could spin off a few more ideas if you're looking for stuff to do!

We gotta spread the word on this one... I know of a few bass players in the area that aren't on Talkbass (what are they THINKING???), so we need to get the word out. I'm going to try and whip up a quick poster tomorrow a.m., I'll see if I can post it here for people to spread around.

Ooo... I just thought of something... If I'm feeling particularly ambitious, maybe I'll bring my iPad/JamUp setup. I haven't explored it TOO much, but it's kinda cool.
