Hiya guys

I am in the market for my first gigging bass amp, and i've got about £450 to spend, give or take a few quid.
I play in a rock/blues band, and I like a nice deep tone. Dont really do too much slap or use any effects.

I'll probably be buying an extension cab in the future, so the amp needs to be extendable. And I plug into the FOH PA, so itll need a balanced XLR output.

Asside from that, I am easy.

Anyone got any suggestions for an awesome combo in that price range?

The Ampegs won't support an ext cab, but since you already know the exact features you're looking for, why not just find something that has it all? Most people here will tell you to avoid a combo amp, but that's really up to you. Do some research on amps that have the features you want, and go for it.

I am not that bothered if it is a combo or head/cab really.
I have been playing on a 1x15, and I think I prefer the deep muddy tones of that type of speaker, over the more punchy 4x10.
But that is why i am looking at extension cabs, so I can add a 2x10 on later, and hopefully make the sound punchier?

Anyway. I am totally lost when it comes to amps at the minute.
If someone can recomment a wicked rig with around 300w of power (I guess thats what I need for club/bar gigs), i would be eternally greatfull!

Oh, and I dont want anything with built in effects. Well, I wouldnt choose anything with them, such as the line6 amps, as I never use them!

check out the Kustom Groove 310c.I absolutly love mine. 1200watts pushing 3-10s(PLENTY of power!),line out to run thru the board,horn w/it's own attenuater,blahblah..read the specs elsewhere.What I can tell you is I've used mine exclusivley for gigging for over a year now in indoor/outdoor/concert hall/small pub...every kind of venue,and it shines in all situations.
On the downside(for you),it does'nt allow for an ext. cab,but I've never needed one w/this beast!(1200watts!!)
The sound from this thing just floored me!All the punch and sparkle of 10s plus all the bowel shaking lows of 15s,w/o any defeated crunch of 10s,or response "flop" of 15s.
I've been able to dial in every tone possible,with every giutar I've plugged in.This one does it all.For $500.(U.S.):hyper:

depends how you define decent.................

are probably the usual suspects.

What do you want from it? Light weight etc.

i had the Ashdown MAG300 210 combo and although heavy was a good rig.

Got a GB Shuttle 3.0 now which is in a different class.

EDIT: Peavey tour is another option or shop used and get more for your money

just been looking at heads and cabs. I might go down this route after all.
Been looking at the Laney RB9. Anyone tried one of these?
Only £200, so I could get that and a decent cab for around £400 I reckon...

The RB9 is ok, but you only get 300W at 4 ohm ie you will need 2 cabs. If you just buy a 1x15 it only puts out about 160w. In which case you may as well just get an RB6 and save for the 4x10 extension cab. I used to have a similar rig (also Laney) and it was good for most small pubs... and it has built in DI for bigger gigs with a decent PA.

Ok. I've been looking at a few heads on ebay in my price range.
This is what i've come up with so far :

Hartke LH1000 - 1000Watt head
Hartke 3500
Gallien Krueger GK 700RB -II
Gallien Krueger GK 800RB
Hartke HA3000

Any of those tickle anyones fancy?

Those are all decent amps, but can't you try some out at a shop?

For me "where could I get it repaired after its warranty expires?" is a more important question than "how does it sound?"

Thats the problem.
My local shops in Cardiff have about 3 bass amps each.
A couple of behringers and a laney are about all i've seen. The rest are 15watt peavey's and fender practise amps.
So i'm left to rely pretty much on recommendations and other peoples knowledge at the moment!
