morf said:Quoting Socrates isn't going to help.
morf said:Some of the comments made towards younger forum users here aren't simple suggestions as to the manner in which we should all reflect upon ourselves and know that we know much less than we think we know. It's just plain "you're young, you've got 20+ years less than me, why should I listen to you, your opinion does not matter because, since I'm older, I know better".
morf said:Know that in 20+ years we'll be the ones cutting your retirement money![]()
morf said:Being mature or immature isn't really the problem. Lets be truthful here, you're probably one of the most immature posters I know of, and I say this without it being pejorative in the least. You just like to post for fun and get a good laugh, which in most cases isn't very mature.
morf said:The truth is, it's not the degree of maturity which matters in an intellectually challenging conversation (thus not age), but rather the degree of education, of open-mindedness, of comprehension, apprehension and understanding, even if not agreeing.
morf said:Telling a younger user his opinion doesn't matter because he's got life ahead of him still is insulting to that person because you think less of his capacities to understand your arguments and his own because of his age.
morf said:Fact is, alot of younger people today are smarter, better educated, and have thought out their opinions and values better than many 40+ adults.
morf said:But hey you and the others being condescending towards the younger generations probably won't change your point of view either way, I can picture you already rolling your eyes with a smirk on your face, so lets leave it at that![]()
kserg said:Because I was looking for help how? Quoting someone is basically saying I think this way but someone before me thought of it already. If I did not quote him I would be plagiarizing by saying that his idea is in-fact my.
kserg said:Take it any way you like, I take it the way I do and way I think is more beneficial for me. What ever works for you.
kserg said:If you have not realized this yet, I would like you to direct you to my age; it is stated clearly in my profile, 25 years old starting tomorrow (June 15th). If we were in same country you would be pay for my retirement for about 5 years, I appreciate that.![]()
kserg said:If you want to take it personal rather then general ok, I never said I was mature, I said I hoped I was getting close. However you are making a mistake thinking that if one makes a joke or finds something funny they are "immature". No one is 100% mature, everyone has much to learn.
kserg said:Maturity is all those things.
kserg said:People usually listen to a part of an argument before making that assumption.
kserg said:First, that can not be a fact as it can not be measured, its a theory. One can argue that we "think" that a lot of us are smarter, but in-fact we are the same as generation that came before us.
kserg said:Once again, I am not that much older then you. On the comment that I am rolling my eyes, if that was so you would not have seen this post being made.![]()
kserg said:In the end, you take comments of other people any way you like; its completely up to you, but if you dont take other peoples comments seriously, how can you expect them to take you in any other way but that?
morf said:I dont see whats up with all the young'uns dissing. You're all old, married, with children, you're never gonna have another woman in your bed for the most part, you're never gonna play any sport like you did when you were 20, the more you grow the older, balder, fatter, close-minded you get...
Oh, I see why you diss us so much now, my bad![]()
Yeah. I hate it when people make generalizations.morf said:I dont see whats up with all the young'uns dissing.
Nice. That distant flushing noise you hear is your opinion as it applies to me. In fact, this quote has just guaranteed that I won't value your opinion on much of anything for a while. Not because of your age, but because you act it. Good job, sparky. You've just proven everyone right. You're all old, married, with children, you're never gonna have another woman in your bed for the most part, you're never gonna play any sport like you did when you were 20, the more you grow the older, balder, fatter, close-minded you get...
Later, when you're more mature, you'll think of a better response.morf said:Yea, as usual we can be insulted but if we say anything back, thats what we get.![]()
I guess so, so are insults for that matter.morf said:I guess proper use of the quoting system is important when you're besides the point...
morf said:Yes, but what I meant was that your quote was irrelevant to
the subject at hand. We're talking about older people disregarding the youngs' opinions because of their age and saying so. Knowing you dont know everything has nothing to do
with it. Everybody realizes that they dont know everything but everybody has an opinion on the subject, and everybody's
opinion is worth as much as the next. Quoting Socrates sure looks nice in a post, but if its off subject there is no point to it.
morf said:Like I said, I do not take such comments seriously, although it is sad to see so many older users so close minded.
morf said:Like Im trying to explain to you, age is not important here. Sure you're 25, but you still believe age is a deciding factor in the understanding and listening of younger users. That's IMO very old fashioned, you may as well be 50.
morf said:Fair enough, its a theory. Ask the 40+ generation if they think they're smarter than their parents, more open minded and understanding.
morf said:This whole post you made is still pretty much besides the point, and you did not get (or at least dont appear to have) a single word i said.
I dont take some comments seriously, fair enough. The comments coming from an older user saying a younger one's opinion isnt right because hes still young and has ways to go I certainly shouldnt take seriously.
morf said:Yea, as usual we can be insulted but if we say anything back, thats what we get.![]()
morf said:I dont mean that to be particularly insulting, those are just things in life I do not wish right now, it just means your life is established and you have a daily routine which is set, and you dont discover as many new things as the younger generations.
I do listen to previous generations, and by no means do I think education is the only important factor. Wisdom however, does not always come with age. There are bad experiences which set negative opinions.
Diggler said:how to pass through airport security quickly, etc. I've been there, done that.
Diggler said:I would love to hear first hand accounts from a WWII vet about that time in history; we are quickly running out of surviving vets.
kserg said:You can do that???? Indeed i have a lot to learn!![]()
morf said:Yeah, but the world changes. What a kid lives toiday isnt what a kid lived 20 years ago, thats all im pointing out. Thats why its fair to listen to someone who see everything with a new eye, and may just have something interesting to say.
