I guess so, so are insults for that matter.

I'm not insulting you, just telling you you're not getting what im trying to explain to you... May be the words I use or the way you get them, I dont know, but theres nothing insulting in what ive said to you...

Actually my quotation is not that irrelevant. One can not have a valid opinion on something with out knowing the subject. However many young people think they know something with out actually having a clue about the subject. Many older folks make the same mistake but it is generally present more so in younger crowd, including myself at times. No one disregards a younger person just because they are young but rather if they actually know the subject at hand or not. If they do, their opinion is valid by mostly everyone, If they don’t, it is quite normal for one to tell them that they have a lot of learn.

Well, on many matters young people know the subject pretty well and still get told they're too young to understand.

You are also wrong that everyone has a opinion on everything and their opinion should count. I for one do not have opinion on everything. I also absolutely will not value opinion of someone who has no way of backing his opinion up as much as someone who can bring solid evidence for his/her believes.

Sure enough, but sometimes the bringer of proof brings that from his own experience which may greatly vary on a world like scale.

Way to be “open-minded”.

I am open minded to non offending ideas... I'm still arguing with you arent i?

I’m still listing to you am I not? But thanks.

Listening doesnt mean understanding though...

Just because they might “think” that doesn’t make it true. I think world is flat, but no matter how hard I think/believe that it wont make it true.

Am I arguing with a person who thinks the earth is flat? :D

Again, there are usually reasons behind those comments, some of those reasons one should take note on. After all not every young person and not to every argument people say that to.

True, but it happens alot. Sometimes there are good reasons, almost everytime there are good reasons, but those reasons are only good for the older guy ;)

Please show us where you've been insulted prior to your insults in this thread? Did I insult you in anyway?

PS. And who is this we? Being same age group as you, am I in your "we".

Insulted might be a strong word. Being told I'm too young to understand though, I've seen happen to many on these forums, including me...

We is the few who agree with me ;)

Hmmm...this is interesting.

The age generalization is a tricky issue. But I think it is there for a reason. There is no question that as a teenager matures, he learns more, and realizes that he didn't know as much as he thought he did. He also realizes that he wasn't right all those times. The old people already know this, and so when they see smart-ass knowitallism from some punk, they remind that person of their age, and point out that in X amount of years when they own things they might think a little different. Of course, young kids are too hot-headed to realize this, and remain confident that they will continue demanding anarchy when they own a house and have a family.

My issue with age generalization is when it is misplaced. I see a lot of young people who present very good, thoughtful points, and the old people write it off as immaturity. "Oh, you just disagree because you're young". Well, maybe that's true on some issues, but not on everything. In fact, you hear many parents talking about how they learn the most from their kids, especially on how to be humble. Doesn't that seem like a contradiction?

Is some punk kid who wants to destroy the system going to change his ways in 20 years? Yeah, almost definitely. And when you see this punk kid running his mouth, there is nothing wrong with pointing out his age and inexperience.

Is some teenager going to change his opinion on the death penalty in 20 years? Probably not, but maybe. Either way, it's a perfectly fine opinion to have on something at just about any age, and because of that old people should just leave age out of it.

Basically, when old people use age as an argument during a debate where it doesn't belong, that's when it gets on my nerves.

When I was a boy of 14, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be 21, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years.

Education is something you get when your father sends you to college. But it isn't complete until you send your son there.

I agree, Autism sucks.

My first job out of college was working at a
school for Autistic children. It was a behaviorally
oriented program. I was trained that rewards and
punishment were the methods employed by
the school director and founder, Dr Israel, who had
studied at Harvard with B.F. Skinner, noted Behavioral
Psychologist.

These children were brought to this private school by
parents desperate to help their autistic kids. There were
2 classes, teachable and unteachable. I was in the
unteachable class.

Rewards consisted of Cheerios. We were to reward good
or consistent behaviors, particulary when small tasks
were accomplished, like screwing 4 nuts and bolts together
on a plate.

Punishment consisted of pulling down the childs track shorts
and spanking the child and yelling NO!

This is the most horrible setting I ever worked in. I used
to grab a six pack EVERY night on the way home. I got
depressed as a result and drank more. And more.

Unfortunately, the unemployment rate in RI that year was
13.5%. That was just what was on the rolls. Getting another
job wasn't easy. But this place had turnover as no employee
could stomach working there for the long term.

I ended up cooking at The Ground Round next, that was a
MUCH better job. I would rather clean out grease traps
and mop floors than spank kids.

Later, I also would babysit for the parents of 'Peter',
an autistic teen who lived up in Massachusetts. Peter was
17, and they felt comfortable using me as I knew him.
And we agreed on a no punishment policy. Peter's parent's
had not been out to dinner alone together ONCE since
he was born as they could never find anyone they
could trust to handle him. But they did love him, and I was
happy to help them out a little as a result, even if it meant driving
60 miles each way.

But yeah, I totally agree, it really does suck.
I hope it all works out for the best, that is quite a load.
