Acrimonus was talking about John Myung as being a great bassist and not Paul Gray.
Hmm... if this was really biased towards metal, people like Alex Webster or Tom Araya would have been in there, haha.

While I am strongly in the music is not a competition camp, greatest bassist "at the moment" would be an outrage but more understandable than the "of all time" it has there. Also bass guitarist would be more accurate. They are leaving a lot of great doublers out. I think we all know the type that made these votes.
P.S As just mentioned, not in the making competition camp, but when it is done it should be done right. Biggest outrage is the placing of JPJ, Macartney, Jack Bruce and the crown on top is Jamerson.
So it is obviously a list comprised of popular music, rock bass players. I get that. 95% (if not more) of folks don't give a **** about session players and jazz monsters who put out solo albums....

All of you guys bashing this list must note that, being an online poll, this list is based purely on the popularity of bassists on the internet and not on any other criterion related to ability, etc. (That's no excuse, though).

Paul Gray...are you kidding me? How does only playing on one string, with a pick nonetheless, make you the 3rd best bass player? I'm not the greatest bass player ever, but I'm fairly confident I could've played circles around him. That being said, may he rest in peace. Oh also, that list is BS.
No one ever states any criteria when they post these things... even TB'ers in this thread saying "so and so shouldn't be on the list" or "so and so should be #1"... claiming that one musician is the "best of all time" even among musicians of different genres is about as petty and infantile as an instrumentalist can get.:scowl:
What's next? Metal isn't music, therefor you must be better than any Bassists who play Metal. also by using a pick you must automaticly be trash. Claiming he only played one string is just bias and ignorance. BTW just so you know Paul Gray played pick and finger depending on the song, can you say the same? You'd think Bassists would be civilized and show less hatred to a dead man.
A lot of people seem to also think that because artists don't shred the s**t out of every song, they must not be that good and must be playing at their very limit on all of their songs. (i.e. Paul Gray)
Just because the dude was pretty meat n potatoes as far as metal bassists go, doesn't mean he wasn't able to play the s**t out of his bass guitar...pick or not.
He actually has had some cool bass parts in songs....Gently, Iowa, Prosthetics...etc etc.

Before I Forget's opening is sweet effects on a bassline. Dead Memories is very mellow and heavy with Bass. people have this notion that the only Bassist worth liking is a Jazz one.
