I posted this elsewhere, but thought it totally relevant to post here as well.
I updated the above photo - Here is the same idea with the Fender Japan 1962 Jazz Bass replica short scale (known as smart scale in Japan) JB62SS superimposed over the Fender Japan JB62M medium scale and the JB62 long scale.
Interesting to note both how the bodies get smaller and the frets line up.
