If you decide to quit, have them give me a call.
This doesn't surprise me. I have heard a lot of "I met John Mellencamp" stories, and none of them paint him very favorably at all.
Or you could just say nothing between songs, and walk off stage at the end of your set with your instruments leaned on the backline feeding back at full volume.
I partied with Faster Pussycat back in the '80s when they toured with Ace Frehley. I wish I could remember it.I met him, way back in maybe '85 or '86 at the first Farm Aid, and he was VERY cool and down to earth. 311 and Iron Butterfly are the only other "big" bands I've met that were as cool.
They guys from 311 were a BLAST to hang out with, I won't say more. Iron Butterfly has played with and has stories about EVERYBODY from back in the day... at least the original members. Amazingly gracious guys, got to spend a few hours hanging out with them after I asked a roadie for a guitar pick.
Most "big names" say hi and bye at best, even if you are playing on the same bill as them. Trent Reznor spits. But he's Trent Reznor, so I guess that's cool. A friend got "**** yourself" out of Trent once.
Oh Ronnie James Dio is a cool guy too, but he is OLD, I mean he is OLD!
I dissagree totally with just about everybody before me. I have seen some amazing cover bands get NOWHERE with the regular crowd at the bar just a couple of hundred yards from my house. They don't get the crowd INVOLVED. Because I have also seen one of the WORST bands ever go in there a kill 'em! They got hundreds of dollars in tips. They were asked at the end of the night how soon they could come back, and offered a raise by the bar owner (and how often does THAT happen these days). The difference was that the second band was CLEVER and they got the crowd involved. There are a lot of jaded guys on this forum. Don't blame them. The world has made them that way. They think that if you have any fun, or get rowdy with a crowd, that you are selling out even more than playing in a cover band. Just relax and be yourself. Make a big deal out of those two newbies early on. Say something to the crowd about how kickass they are or something to that affect. Good luck! Cheez it up! Knock 'em dead!
well I'm in a band that does 4 hours with no breaks so some banter is required.
another good one is to pull a Veteran on stage and acknowledge him. we buy one vet a drink a night in my band. Because no matter where you stand on war, the guy walks in front of bullets for a living.....gotta be commended
