Coolest jazz basses ever?

I changed my mind, I think the coolest Jazz bass ever is MY Jazz bass (Warmoth body, Fender MIM neck, Hanson NeoPunch pups, Hipshot "A" bridge)

I'm partial to my green six:

Great looking bass. I love the myrtle top and of course the finish on it is superb.

I happened to spot it a couple months ago when I was considering top woods for a Stambaugh build. Apparently quite a few luthiers that I admire have sourced top woods from Oregon Wild Wood.

Your Brubaker is listed a few basses down:

Yeah, I love that place. Turned several people onto them. This was the second Myrtlewood top I got from them. One was $35, the other was $50. I don't remember if this was the "expensive" one or not.
;)

Cool place and cool people. The quartersawn Douglas Fir for my upcoming Stambaugh hollowbodies came from there.

Brubaker, Sadowsky, EBMM, Clement, Stambaugh ACG - pretty good company to keep. I find myself looking through the available tops even when I'm not even considering a new build.

And Kevin absolutely nailed that jade-like shade of green on your bass. Not surprising given his obvious finishing skills. I love the way Myrtle looks with trans finishes.

I'm shooting for my next bass to be a cheap Jazz that I feel comfortable leaving someplace. Maybe a Squier Affinity 5 or the VM Modified 5, if I can't find a used something in the $200-300 range. (Haven't really started looking yet). Whatever it is though, I planning on blowtorching it ala Larry Hartke style.

But I forgot Squier did a VM 5, also a nice bass imho

Maybe the SX Would be good If you are going to torch it :)

That's definitely an option, and that would be a good color for it. I'm not sure though... I've never played an SX, and I've played both the Squiers (both play/sound great for the $$). I've also heard the SX's have a bit tighter string spacing at the bridge, which I really don't dig, and I'd need to get over the headstock design... :hmm:

The coolest jazz bass? 8 pages and no mention of the Tractor!?

And another super cool jazz bass: Mel Schacher's Gibsonized Jazz.

And, shameless self-plug, MY jazz bass. Yes, it's heavily influenced by Berry's, but a slightly different take on it. I might one day add a BnB neck to it as well.

That finish really tested his patience. I had this color in mind and after loads of emails and several trips to the paint booth he nailed. The fact that the top had a natural greenish hue only complicated things even more. It was fun watching him track this one down. Never ceases to amaze me.
