I just bought 2 more MIJ P's

1962 reissue, Old Candy Red, 4.1kg with original DiMarzio Japan pickup in absolutely mint condition.

1962 reissue, Vintage White, 3.8kg(!!!) in great shape with some dents on the back and the bottom/top of the body.

Can't wait for them to arrive! I'll probably only keep the better of the two and re-sell the other. :)

Kinda sums it up--though Oly white and tort(with maple or rw) is also contender in my book...

How nice that black with maple looks! What year? My ultimate is the oly/tort combo also. Tried to get that vibe with my AVRI 57 white blond by swapping the gold with a tort, not the same so I'm still drooling for the Olympic although love the sound. Best instrument I have the luck to call my own.

This one.

Not sure if I posted this in this thread yet, but it's pretty enough to look at again if I did.

That's nice. Does the bridge hat get in the way of playing or muting?
I still like mine. It came with a hot Korean chick.

And fretless?? Very nice, indeed.

Yes, the covers get in the way. And the pickup cover has the added bonus of blocking you from plucking in the sweet spot.

But, its the price you pay for coolness.

And then there's this one. It was a fun project, but needs a new neck.

After 30 years and various basses, I've come to the conclusion: all you need are two (maybe three) Fenders. A P-bass you love. A J-bass you love and (in my case) a P/J Fretless (Tony Franklin for me). If you can't find "your sound" among those three pillars, you aren't going to find it.

What came first, your sound or the Fender sound you heard from a blues or rock &roll band? Is your sound an imitation or homage, or is it original? It's tough to be entirely original isn't it--especially w using a Fender.
Last thought: What do we owe chuck berry?
