Cort Plus A6 & Cort Artisan A6

Hello everybody!
I was looking for a new bass to buy, specifically a six-string and I was looking for decent quality. I saw people writing "Cort Plus A6", "Cort Artisan A6" and at times "Cort Custom A6" and I googled and googled and ended up with little to no results, so I thought of asking y'all

So, do you guys know what's the difference between this or if they're all the same?
Is this a good bass? Do you have any experience with it? And what would you recommend me about it, or another bass (similar or less price)?

I haven't played an Artisan myself, but I've had a Cort bass before and they are definitely excellent quality. They don't have great resale value though so they don't seem that popular here on TB.

Are you limited to Cort? Are there other brands you are interested in?

I wanna buy a six-string bass after playing four-string for about two years. I don't need one but I just want to challenge myself in different ways and allow myself to do more experimental things aside of my projects. Just for fun to be honest, but also cause they've had a spark in my mind for a long time now and they seem very special to me. I am open to any brand really, I'm looking for something medium-high quality but not too expensive. I mentioned Cort cause it was one of the few that looked interesting that come into my country. I live in Argentina. Although, I'll look into anything recommended, whether it is tips, technique, or basses!
I've also looked into Ibanez GSR256, but I believe the Cort was better, those are the two main ones I've had a look at, still don't know much. I'm kind of tight on budget and will have to sell my previous bass to be able to afford a new one.


P.S: Yeah, for a while I thought Corts were like really low quality and always avoided them when I first started, never heard mentions and they were just on the shadows for me. When I started doing research and seeing them around I figured that I had been completely wrong, that they were pretty high-end, and that prejudice isn't a good thing!! Even for basses!!

Well, another brand that might suit your needs is LTD. I have a couple and love them. Very high quality to price ratio and great feeling necks. Maybe this? Neck though and great looking. You might want to check out Ibanez also, which I imagine might be more easily available to you.

Cort called their flagship series Artisan. Among the Artisan there are A, B, and C, where A being the highest grade and C the lowest. They put the string number at the end.

Basically what you're after is Artisan A6. The latest change is they've rearranged the preamp knob order where the bass and treble positions are swapped, which put the treble knob under the bridge as opposed to bass knob on the previous build. It seems that they name this latest change to include word "Plus". And also since they have new naming scheme starting 2016, which includes some letters from wood name and previous scheme which includes the type of finishing, so the new name is getting longer and become Artisan A6 Plus FMMH OPN (Figured Maple MaHogany OPeN pore).

The word "Custom" is another thing. This word is used for special build which might be aniversary model, usage of special pickups and/or preamp (USA Bartolini), special wood and/or finnishing (zebra, spalted maple top, bird's eye maple), or any combination of these. AFAIK, for the Artisan, A, 6 string, they haven't put the word "Custom" with the exclusion of special build for Indonesian Bass Player Indro Hardjodikoro as his signature model, but it's being rename as Cort ISB6 (not being marketed worldwide, and btw, word has it that Indro's own signature model bass and few others of his were just recently being stolen).

I used to owned ESP LTD D6-NS before sold it as I've acquired the Artisan A6. Basically, the D6 is in the same class as the B206 with some differences in finishing and being neck-thru & string-thru body. I had physically compared both D6 and B206 units before finally decided to purchase the D6 (btw, it's written in the specs that B206 is 35" vs. D6 being 34", but in reality the two units I tried had the same 34" scale. Few internet reviews also confirm this). Comparing the LTD D6 vs. Artisan A6, the winner is clearly A6 as this has better hardware (tuners, bridge, and electronics). Build quality wise, they both (and also the B206) have good craftsmanship of those well trained people and CNC machines in factories located in East Java, Indonesia.

i´m looking for more discrimination details for this models...
what i´ve found´til now :

brand "Cort" on headplate (some others only with a "C" or vertical directed (?),
model-name "Artisan" on thrussrod-cover-plate, or letters like A6...,
inlay "custom" in 12th or 24th fret or none,
older models without "bite" in headstock-corner, shilouette maybe older Ibanez-like(?),
different bridge-types,
different wood-options, also variations in different years,
different PU´s,
..what else?

i´m especially looking for info to an older ones with
more broad neckthrough Wenge-stripes, gold hardware/bridge/tuners/knobs, mighty-mite PUs, black plate on headstock...
