Could You Tone it Down a Little Bit?

I just got a really nice but misplaced "hey can you turn the bass down?" this weekend. Myself and the drummer were the only ones who had sound checked so far, and I knew how loud the whole band is. It was a real bummer because it sounded great, and our little soundcheck jam got an applause. I remembered this thread and cut some of the bass out of the EQ. The drummer later wondered why i was cutting in and out and why he could only hear the rhythm guitar...

So now... IME... we're not a band of 15 year olds turning everything up to 11. That old lady, and my drunk house party host, aren't musicians, they don't get to tell me how to EQ or what volume to play.

Even humor gets picked apart these days.

Today, people pick and choose what they will be self-righteous about. They will cheat on their taxes but condemn other actions.

I might be an atheist and all but I do feel this is because of the secularisation of society. Not joking man. There were always free thinkers, but religion sort of did/does provide the one-size-fits-all morals that makes guessing people's values a lot easier.

Now you can pick your morals off a dartboard (wearing a blindfold). Nothing wrong with that if you are being true to your beliefs, but it can make things a bit of a minefield.

I personally would not flip off an old lady to her face, but as a private band-only joke behind her back I don't have too much a problem. I would not put a vid of it on youtube and attract negative or positive comments, but thats just me. When you are floating on the cloud of cool in gig mode and some pedant comes up and makes a comment like that it can be a bummer.

I stopped off at a biker bar once. I was thirsty and it was time to get off the bike for a while. The band to be playing was warming up and were way too loud for the 10 people in the place. I put in my ear plugs and enjoyed my ice-cold Coke.

I suppose I went about that all wrong, I should have walked over and asked them to quiet down, eh?
