country bass question

I know, I know...if it ain't Hank Thompson, Snow or Williams it ain't country :D

I've played my share of Swingin' Doors and Cab Driver tunes...when I flip to the country station these days, it sure sounds more like pop with a twang...but, hey, one man's meat...

I play the 5 string because I like playing the key of E in fifth position on the B string. The closed E on the fifth string has better tone than the open E on the fourth IMO. Being able to add the Ab on the 4th string to an E chord run is a nice enhancement as well.

And that is exactly why you should keep playing your 5-string! Hell you don't even need to play lower than E, but playing the E on the B string sounds so damn NICE!!

Response to an earlier thread, Keith Horne, plays for Luke Bryan now, but did play for Tanya Tucker. Dave Pomeroy was with Trisha, though Keith probably did play a few shows with her. Keith is an absolute freak on the bass, and Im glad to call him a friend. He can tear up an acoustic guitar flatpicking style and is a monster steel guitarist. And did I mention, he sings like a bird! Doesnt hurt that he's a super guy too and lets me sit in when he is out on the town. The only left handed bass player that I can sit in on his bass, LOL!
Hey guys, this is a great thread and welcome our newest member to talkbass.com, my bro, Tully Kennedy!
