Thanks for the info, and my apologies to you. I did not know you had designed this amp. I will say I have no experience with it, so I didn't know it had a fan. But, I'm sure you will agree that all other things being equal, reducing ventilation is not a good idea. My only intent was to try to keep the OP from damaging an amp.

My bad. I am totally unfamiliar with that amp. Hope you understand that the general rule is reducing ventilation is bad. Did not mean to mislead.

This thread reminds me of a "Car Talk" shtick, whereby meat, potatoes, and other items were wrapped in foil and placed on the engine manifold of an automobile traveling to grandma's house for holiday dinner. By the time the dinner destination was reached, the food was properly cooked, and dining commenced.

So, agedhorse, if I disconnect the fan and block the ports in my SM9.2, place some uncooked, foil-wrapped food on top, do you have any tasty cooking recipes to share regarding a post-gig meal (other than toasted amp)? I'm usually really hungry after a long gig. Please advise.

Ok. I was the one that required the top vents so the preamp tube was visible.
Never thought an issue like the OPs would occur.
Now as far as "amp grillin' ", at GB we thermal tested each amp design in the direct desert summer sun and the top of the amp would surpass 140 degrees. I always wanted to pull out a slab of bacon and see how long it took to make a BLT sandwich. Thought about rating the amps power in "bacon watts".

Back when I was in school (many years ago), I used to heat up frozen burritos wrapped in foil on my trucks exhaust manifold. Leaving Los Angeles, they would be perfectly done by the time I hit Buttonwillow, just over the Grapevine. When I showed my son how to do this with his car, he wondered why anybody would do this since there was fast good 24/7 everywhere. That was not the case, of course, 40 years ago.

Car Talk is one of my favorite shows.
