Covers Better Than The Original

Hank Williams: Renowned as one of the great originators in all of American music, with "Move It On Over" in particular lying at the root of rockabilly and rock 'n' roll to come (I mean, just listen to "Rock Around the Clock" after listening to this song, for one!), and containing elements of country, western swing, jazz (that guitar solo) ... all kinds of influential, and a toe tappin' rhythm to boot. And, uh, actually original ... :)

George Thorogood: Warmed over white boy blues guitar and ersatz blues growl, wannabe all the way ... within that framework it's an ok version, for what it is ... a little slow for my taste ... eh ...
Yep, total overated hack. Williams, on the other hand, one of America’s greatest songwriters.

I've always liked George Harrison's version of "If Not For You" better than Dylan's original.

Similarly, I like The Band's version of "When I Paint My Masterpiece" better than Dylan's original. And I'm not ragging on Dylan. It's just that I think these covers are better.

I like CCR's version of "The Midnight Special" better than any previous (or later versions) I've ever heard.
