Covers Better Than The Original

Newsted's tone on that EP was growly and edgy... sounded great.

I'd love it if those guys re-released Justice with newly recorded tracks. No re-mixing or re-mastering... just go re-cut it with Robert, Jason or both. Lots of good tunes on that album... although I'd be perfectly okay if I never heard "One" again -- that one simply got too much play. Kinda like the Dead's "Touch of Grey."

This EP was Metallica's "head fake" - they fooled us into thinking that we might actually be able to hear bass on their recordings from then on...SAD!

Justice was the first Metallica album I heard that I really liked. It grabs you pretty much immediately and doesn't let go.

I'm not really into metal anymore, but in high school I was, and Justice had just come out when I got into music. It's still my favorite Metallica album: the lyrics are incredible, the rhythms are complex and gritty, the compositions are well-done, and I'll say it - I loved the guitar tone. Yes it's unfortunate you can't hear much of Jason (on my system, I can only hear him during the bridge in the title track), but in every other way, that album for me is their best and most mature. And speaking of the title track of AJFA - that's my favorite Metallica song. Easy.

Love that their 90s b-sides had a lot of covers though. I remember digging their version of "Stone Cold Crazy."

And on the topic of metal, I really really like Iron Maiden's cover of "Massacre":

26560768[/URL], member: 57463"]I never thought Louie Louie could be a song I actually liked. As a player in the 60s, bands were forced into playing it along with La Bamba and various Chuck Barry hits, whether you wanted to or not. On a Thanksgiving trip to Mom's in the 80s a radio station played Louie Louie all day long, many, many versions. But, on Beware(!) an album by Barry White, he redid Louie Louie and took it to a new heights! Who would have thought it?
I’m not generally a fan of the song, but I dig Motörhead’s recording.
