Well, I just spent a few minutes playing this TR-5 and WOW!!!
The first thing that jumped out at me were the strings. They sound great, but appeared illuminated!!! I had to pull out the package they came in, and these are DR Electric Silver Stars with a Hi-Performance Coating!!! Look out Curt Mangan strings, there might be a change a-coming!!!
The second thing is the contoured back that really compensates for my manly six-pack. The bass hangs perfectly and the front stays at a perfect playing angle when standing.
The third are Nordstrand preamp and pups, which are my first in a bass. I like the tonal spectrum and the mid-range growl that this bass is giving me with these strings and setup.

Okay, so you guys disproved my point in post #295, but brought my attention back to the fact that each bass is beautiful and unique is its own way (except for campbems who has a thing for this Buckeye Burl Roscoe!

Has anyone else received their TR-4 or TR-5 bass?
Man, the TR-5 bass is so nice! Chuck does such a top notch job with his builds, and the setup is on point, too!

As much as I admire the bass Chuck knows I am a less then casual bass player so no for me.
Though I have had talks some what recently with Chuck about a new guitar build.
I am fortunate to have had availability to the bass I received from Chuck
seeing as it had the thumb rest in that body and he wasn't building more of
them like that at the time. I just really was drawn to that whole design.
So glad he brought that design back.

I looked at your photo and it was like trying to pick from Buggati's, Lamborghini's, Ferrari's, etc..

Thanks, Lou! My desk faces that wall from the other side of the room, so I get to marvel, stare, droll, and pick a bass to play based on my mood at the moment. May this feeling forever run in my veins!!
I agree Nightman, I hope this feeling runs in all our all our veins for as long as we're on this earth. I feel younger every time I pick up my bass and play or learn a new song. There's no feeling like it. I just finished learning a Jaco tune that I've wanted to learn for years and it is such a great feeling to play it with the album and be able to play it note for note.
Which Jaco's piece is it? It's not 'The Chicken' is it? I like that song....Funky!!!

Are you playing a fretless on this copy?
I know what you mean. I jammed the knuckles of my middle and ring fingers on my fretting hand playing ball in my youth and I can't the those two fingers to separate like they need to, particularly on a fretless with the movement required for 'Come on, Come Over', which I started listening to.
A couple of shots from the setup from last night!
It was a Genzler & CP Thornton Friday night! The TR-5 sounded great and was a joy to play! I recorded the sets and anxious to hear the results. The Silver Stars strings that came on the TR-5 were fantastic! I'll be looking to install a set of these strings on another bass.

I played my TR-5 in service today and it is just an awesome playing and sounding bass! I just love the active sound, but the passive is just as impressive. With the body size, the asymmetric neck, the light weight, the strings, the contoured back (all standard) and the ramp that really does come in handy to me for palm muting at the bridge with finger & thumb alternating plucking makes this the best best I've ever owned!!!
