Crikey, Steve Irwin dead

I've always enjoyed Steve, then he did a DVD with the Wiggles and my son started to enjoy him as well. I kinda feel the same way that I felt when you lose someone you grew up with. Johnny Carson, Andy Griffith, Don Knots, Alan Hale jr. It's always sad when someone who brings joy to others leaves us.

David is a giant in the world of conservation and educating people about the natural world. His dedication to the field even in his old age is as strong as it ever was, and I have a huge deal of respect for him. However, Steve made nature accessible to everyone. Kids and adults alike loved his shows because he was a real character, just a really loveable guy who you could become attached and take a liking to after just watching him once.

And MysticMichael, thats just uncalled for. This isn't the time for cheap jokes. :scowl:

I grew up on The Crocodile hunter watching it all the time as a young child. I woke up this morning thinking it was going to be a good day but then I came online and I found out the Steve Irwin a true hero was dead, I suddenly felt sad. I didn't know him personally, I had never met the guy before, but growing up and watching him do things no other man would do was enough to have a day of grief. Today I understood what my father was feeling the day Johnny Carson passed away. When I got the news the Crocodile Hunter, the part of every man that will do things that no other man would do suddenly isn't thier any more. May one of my Greatest Hero's rest in peace. Steve was a great guy and it's a shame that he died so young.

Has everyone seen the South Park interpretation of Steve Irwin? It was utterly brilliant and the man himself absolutely loved it. I must did it up and watch it again.

"I am just going to jam my finger up its butt and make it really angry!"

Then Cartman starts impersinating him! That is prolly one of my favourite episodes of Southpark.

there are lots of conflicting reports doing the rounds of the news wires on this story. some are saying he died instantly, others that he died when he removed the spine from his heart. some say there was footage, others say there isn't, his wife wasn't informed/she was there with him etc etc etc.

Put quite simply - we should be wary of speculating given that we have such vastly conflicting reports.

The cameras, thankfully, weren't rolling. Apparently, Steve just went out for a swim. No chance of morbid onlookers watching him die.

My family watches his shows on a regular basis. He will be missed in our household.

RIP.
Video footage of Steve Irwin's last moments shows the popular crocodile wrangler pulling out the stingray barb which ended his life, according to Irwin's producer.

John Stainton, producer and director on many of Irwin's projects, described the video as the worst thing he had ever seen.

"I have seen the footage and it's shocking," Mr Stainton told reporters in Cairns. "It's a very hard thing to watch because you're watching somebody die and it's terrible."

"It shows that Steve came over the top of the ray and the tail came up, and spiked him here [in the chest], and he pulled it out and the next minute he's gone. That was it. The cameraman had to shut down."

And the plot thickens...
