Well I've officially joined the club! I'm having my first custom bass built. I've entertained the thought of one for quite some time, andow I've decided to take the plunge.

I've been chatting with Alan from ACG over the past week and sent in my deposit yesterday! Even before the build process has started Alan has been a great guy to work with. Very prompt and very friendly in his responses to any questions I had. I'm very much looking forward to the (agonizingly long ) process of watching my bass being created.

I've also decided to go with the coil switching and 18 volt preamp options. I'm really looking forward to the preamp and pickups in this bass. The filter system has always intrigued me, and the samples posted in the thread here on TB were very impressive sounding. After checking out the info about them on his site, I browsed his bass models as well, and found them to be very nice themselves. I figured why just get the preamp, when I could get a custom bass made how I want with the preamp within it.

After some deliberation and talking it over with Alan, I decided getting an AC bass was feasible for me to do. This is very exciting for me. I've loved all the progress shots in this thread. Now I get to contribute to them

Specs:

Model: Recurve
Scale: 34"
Body wood: Mahogany
Top/Back wood: Amboyna Burl
Neck: 5 pc. Maple / Wenge
Fretboard: Undecided
Hardware: Black


When decided on the top wood, I asked if it was possible to get Amboyna Burl with some of the sapwood still in the cut. I've seen a few stunning pieces (I think Adrian Garcia had a bass with a really nice Amboyna top) Alan told me he'd see what he could do, and he came back with these:

Needless to say, my top wood is chosen. That looks nicer than I could've imagined! He said he's probably going to reposition the angle of the bass because of the veneer, that way the cut will get the best use of the sapwood part.

I should be able to pick out a fingerboard soon

Ordered a CB bass and I have about 10 more months to wait. Trying to be patient. Funny thing is...I keep buying basses while I am waiting. I think i am trying to get my fix while waiting for my custom. Just bought a Ibanez gwb35 and now i am a couple days away from getting a Bass Company jazz. Funny thing about talkbass....I never had this problem before. But as soon as I join here....pow I get gas fever.

I continue to be more and more impressed with the work from Ramirez and ACG!
I see a similar vibe and level of finish/craftsmanship.
IMO, you can stack their basses against more than one of the top dollar boutique axes out there.

Here are some progress shots of my F Bass BN5. I opted for a solid northern ash body, and I love the grain on the piece we picked out. I also asked George for a drop-dead birdseye maple board, and 'boy, howdy!' did he deliver!

The body will have a blue burst finish (moderate brown grain enhancement), and I opted for black hardware.

Here is the birdseye top to my 35" 4-string singlecut.

I think I'm leaning toward swamp ash for the body core, as opposed to mahogany, I wanna play bass, not go to the gym. I just love that upper-midrangy mahogany tone, but I also love that hella-bright swamp ash snap. Deciding on wood is sooo hard. I'm still going with bloodwood for the fingerboard and accents between the core and top. I wanna through some purpleheart and padauk in there also but I don't know where to put it. Anyway, I can't wait for it to be done. Help!
