I finally have an update on my Alembic Europa 5. Still oversized pre-carving, but it's looking like a bass now.

Woo hoo!

It's been a long time since I last posted anything here...

Routasydan - I love your bass. The extended fretboard and its beautiful simplicity are intoxicating.

Carver, that is a sick bass!. Really nice and makes me seriously want a Jerzy Drozd...no I want THAT Jerzy Drozd! :ninja:

RLK, I am just loving how your bass is coming along. It looks fantastic and has some really neat design ideas that I am very interested in (especially the tapering body). Keep us all updated please.

Stedtale, what a unique and beautiful fretboard you are going to have.

Stew, I like the look of your new top...will contrast beautifully with the yellow heart and alder woods.

Eleon, that bass is simply beautiful. Lovely choice of woods, grains and colours. Can't wait to see that one finished.

Tom, that birds eye maple fretboard is just it. Really really nice!

Finally, the SEI 8 is all but finished and I am scheduled to collect it next week. An 8 string fretless will not appeal to many, but here are a few pictures of it:

SEI 24:
I'm almost speechless (typless?). Beautifully crafted fretless 8!
Love the whole go-for-broke design/materials; that's livin'!
And in spite of the radical specs, everything appears proportionate and just aching to help move some air!

That's the ideal I was shooting for with the fretless 7 design.
Your Sei nails it.

It's finally starting to come along, this is being built for me by Chris Small, more of a hobby for him than a full profession at this point in time I think, but he knows his stuff and the price was very very nice. I think he just did a spray of some kind to show off the woodgrain in these pics, still needs to be finish sanded and the scroll still needs some work, anyways heres the specs/pics

34" scale
24 fret
Bolt-on
Gaboon ebony fingerboard
Gaboon ebony top
Gaboon ebony veneer on the headstock
Quartersawn maple? neck
haha for some reason I can't recall the bodywoods, I wanna say the center is maple...
Dark Star pickup (the thumbrest will cover the chip from the router.)
Bayou P bass wiring harness
ebony knobs
Kahler Tremelo

also...depending on funds I might have Carl Thompson 'no frills' bass #3 on the way in the near future (I really do think I am addicted to scroll styled basses hahaha)

Well, I'm off the group. For now.

This just in; Maple/Wenge/Maple body, Maple/Wenge/Bubinga neck, Ebony fretboard, 2*EMG40DC + piezo, EMG 3-band EQ + piezo volume/blend, string spacing at the bridge 15mm.

Got a message from Tony @ Planet Bass yesterday-

my custom Quantum's neck has been made, with the chechen fingerboard attached. They are in the process of doing the satin finish and about to install the frets.
The body isn't done yet, but it's getting there. :)

Gotta call him back to make sure we're eye to eye on the electronics options.
