Custom Bass Wait Support Group Needed [Part 3]

Well I'm now looking to officially join the club. Wilser is starting my custom 7 string in a couple of weeks. We met last month, hashed out some final details (well final up to this point anyway). My specs are on Wil's site along with but to summarize I wanted a 17" body, because a bigger body fits me... 7 strings of course and the rest is pretty standard. Oh and its going to be about 2.5" but hollow chambered (a bass version of my old archtop jazz guitar - ducking the flames on that admission). Now its just waiiiiiittttttinnnng!

It's all getting exciting with my ACG 9 string www.acguitars.co.uk

The body's swamp ash with this mahogany top...

One wenge and maple neck blank (amongst the other ACG builds)

...and one spalted, acrylicised bookmatched fingerboard (glued and slotted but before sanding and polishing)

I'm really extremely excited about this bass and real proud to be an ACG customer. There's more info in the build thread (link in sig) but I'll post pics here to let everyone know that I'm suffering a wait as well !!

Here are some shots of my latest Skjold (thanks, Juneau!). It is a Lion's Pride Model-A, with an ash body, redwood top, 3-piece maple neck, figured maple board with redwood blocks, Skjold SD-1 pickups set in the '70's Jazz position, and a custom East/Skjold Deluxe preamp.

I am going to pick it up at Pete's new digs when he moves to Ohio next week.

Here's a link to my thread on this bass.

I'm sure I will post more when I get it my own hands. Man, I can't wait! :hyper: :bassist:

I'm really anxious to check out my custom East preamp, too. I had asked Pete if it was possible to get his Deluxe preamp set up vol/vol, but still retain the option to switch to series mode. In series mode, the two pickups act as one big pickup, so you can't have vol/vol. But here's were John East got really slick. You switch to series mode by pulling up on the first volume knob, which then becomes your master volume (and the 2nd vol is inactive in series mode). Slick!

Good god I'm still getting over the top! What kinds of tones do you expect to pull with a combination like that?

Well, Pete's pickups are split-coils (like mini reverse-P pickups), but very open and full-range. So, set in the 70's Jazz location, with an ash body and a maple board, in passive mode, it should be able to do a relatively 'Jazz-like' tone, though it's not intended to be a J-bass clone. Pete says it's more full sounding than the typical Jazz bass in passive mode (which is what I was after), but that it has similar highs and lows.

The East/Skjold preamp is super flexible, and offers a wide range of additional tones.

Tom.

Tom - What a fantastic looking bass you've got there. Simply stunning and bet you rightly are real pleased with it.

Ammioz77 - I really like the top for your new bass. Keep us updated with progress please!

Ramirez basses look lovely. Digging the ones posted by Rudyboy98 and RLK - Real nice looking basses guys.

Do you have a thread cataloging your “Armoury” (as 7String put so well) ?
If not, you should consider.
No doubt it would already be a “Megathread”

SEI 24bass- Thanks for the nice words, how’s the fretless 8er treating you? (or vice-versa).

Ammioz77 – Very much intrigued with your specs. Look forward to seeing the build.
No shame in deriving inspiration from your archtop jazzer.
Wilser’s “CC”, My laggan 7, and my Ramirez “Hybrid” 7 had the same inspiration.

Speaking of the 7- - -
Finishing starts this week. Should see it in ~2-3 weeks!

I saw yours when i was last in Wil's shop. I liked the weight and feel of it, in fact, yours inspired me to go with the mid layer - that and the need of it for the thickness I'm wanting. Unfortunately Wil's not really going to post the pictures of my build because he's moving away from that. It takes too much time, but I will keep you posted as he shares the shots with me.
