Custom Bass Wait Support Group Needed [Part 3]

Hi everybody,

I'm currently waiting on 3 basses that should all be done within the next three months.

I'm the second person (at least I've been told) to order the Zon Todd Johnson headless 32" scale bass. All of the specs are identical to Todd's but I had them increase the string spacing to 18mm.

I'm also set to receive a Zon Vb4 that I ordered at the same time.

Lastly, I'm awaiting the finish of my first Sadowsky NYC standard bass. It will have a master grade koa top, master grade ebony finger board, and 24 frets.

Expected arrival dates: Sadowsky, 11/1-1/1
Zon, 12/15

I remember you from the Zon club haha. What bass do you have on order?

As for the TJ, yea, you and me both- I'll be sure to post pics and some clips of how it sounds. I'm really interested to hear the differences between it and 6 string basses I currently use. Todd is kind of like my Anthony Jackson in that I feel he, along with Zon of course, designed what might be the perfect bass. The ramps, the shortened scale, headless design, the cutaway depth, the balance and weight, clarity and evenness of tone...everything is optimal. Just FYI, because Zon hasn't updated the site with the new TJ, the bass costs about 7k.

I know the cost- it's about what a TJ6 normally would set you back with some options (I have the headed version I got back in 2006, and it's my main instrument). I lived near the shop for a long time and visited frequently enough. They were building headless basses last time I was there- I think there were two bodies if I recall correctly.

I love my TJ6. I tune E-e normally, and the 32" would make playing some of the stuff I do much easier, and would allow me to leave the B on this bass. The headless is less of a thing for me than the short scale, though I wouldn't mind the light weight. I'll get one eventually!

Awesome. It must be a privilege to get to visit the shop and see the basses in progress. Is E-e tuning like a guitar's? I can imagine where less tension would aid with a high e. Here's hoping you get your instrument soon.

The instrument I have on order is a very long story that goes way way back, but it's a fretless four string. Should be neat. :D

Yeah, E-e like a guitar. It works well on 34" as I already use light strings, but 32" would make things easier to play and give me a bit more freedom with string gauges. Something lighter/warmer than the walnut my 6 string is made out of would probably be good for the higher strings, too!

I have 2 basses and 2 guitars. With my basses, I have a Zane guitars Fender P style bass being made for me right now and a Zane guitars prototype bass being made. The other prototype is on the road right now with the bass player for Chase Rice. Here is the mock up of the P bass being made for me right now and will hopefully be here in early November.

I've been waiting on a custom fretless u-bass from my uke builder in Vietnam. It was supposed to take only 45 days, but it's up to 4 months now. Seems with my advocating of him, he's become much busier, and he's been on vacation for the last week. He did send me photos just before he left of the finished uke, but I have no idea if he sent it.

I'm also about to start a custom solid body mini bass from Bruce Herron of Blue Star Guitars in Michigan. Waiting on the hardware from China, which I was notified yesterday is being processed by the Chinese shipping office. This one I'm really looking forward to, but could also take a few months.

On Friday I put an order in for a custom G&L SB-2 Fretless. 2-3 months, though on a rebuild they did for me it took 2 weeks and a few people got theirs in a month, so we'll see.

Whiskey Finish
Ash
Tort Pickguard
#12 Maple Neck w/ Light Tint Satin Finish
Unlined Rosewood Board

Similar to this, at least color and pickguard wise (and not a guitar).

I've got some good ACG news as well! With my final payment being made, I'm expecting my Harlot to be shipped out this week. I am beside myself with anticipation for this beautiful bass to arrive! Not too bad of a wait, its been just around 5 months since my first conversation with Alan.

Thanks! I'm pretty excited myself. I owe a huge debt of gratitude to you and all the other ACG owners who helped me through the process of making a decision on the bass. It looks like perfection in pictures and on paper to me, and I'm pretty confident it'll be the same way once in my hands.

For those who like specs:

• Top Wood: Figure Maple
• Body Wood: Black Limba
• Accent Veneer: Black
• Body Finish: Satin Lacquer
• Neck Wood: 3 piece Wenge
• Fingerboard: Wenge 33″ scale
• Neck Finish: Epoxy and oil
• Pickups: ACG FB Humbuckers
• Hardware details: Hipshot Type B, Hipshot string tree,Gotoh GB720 tuners and Dunlop straplocks
• Pre-amp: ACG SEQ Dual Filter

Here's a couple of other shots of her. :)
