Custom Bass Wait Support Group Needed [Part 3]

I've been holding back my posting here, as I hoped to have a few pictures to show off, but Jens Ritter is one BUSY man - the last 4-5 e-mails I've sent to him have only contained questions, not answers... And definitely no pictures! :(

BUT I'm waiting for my 5-string Ritter Roya none the less...! I got extremely hooked on Ritter basses a few years ago, and when I found a way to rearrange some loans, sell the stereo, etc, I first ordered this Roya and then bought the Ritter Platinum Roya Concept - in the same month! :p
I'm still waiting for the Platinum because he's been busy at NAMM, etc, but I should have it soon, I hope.

So, this post is about the other Ritter :D
This is how it's going to turn out:

Ritter Roya shape, 5 strings, fretted
Purpleheart body
Birds eye maple top, matching headstock
Maple neck
Purple Kingwood fretboard, matching PU covers
Ritter Triplebucker pickups
Gold Hardware
High gloss finish

It skipped the waiting list when I ordered it, because Ritter wants to bring it to show at the Frankfurt Musikmesse in March...!! :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

But still it's sooooo hard to wait !!! :help:

Guess it time to join the "hurry up and wait" support group.

Placed an order with Michael Stevens for a Slant 5.

18-24 months, can't think of too many better ways to celebrate turning 40!

Cheers,

Edward

Congrats Thor2!
Pretty wild instrument.
Kind of looks like Picasso got a hold of a Roscoe Beck bass. (for the record, that's a compliment);).
EDIT:
Just looked into the Stevens sight more.
So Michael Stevens did design a bass with Roscoe Beck!

Okay, I'm more impressed.

Right on
A sub-group in the wait group;

The "W-R-W-R"
"Wilser-Ramirez-Waiting-Room".

You need to show a picture of the rear. Talk about a perfect piece of- - - - - - -(can't - - - - - - - resist - - - - -- bad - - -pun)- - -

The Ritter is going to be a very special bass.

Also, very special is that Lull PJ5. From what's been written on this forum, Mike Lull's instruments seem to be extremely high thought of. I'm in the US for a month in April and Lull is definately I would like to try/buy.

Thanks man, I couldn't pass up for what I was getting it for.

Vic, I don't know for sure if its in the 70's placement. The Duncan pickups are made for Lull basses by Duncan and I went ahead and got the normal P, not reverse. I think the difference in tone between the P and Reverse is going to be pretty negligable, IMHO.

It's most likely the "typical" or "60's" placement unless otherwise spec'd. Usually, 70's placement is an option... if available.

Main question I have about the J pickup is, is it a humbucker? The problem I've run into with SC J/bridge p'ups in P/J's is the P pickup is already humbucking, so it can't be used as a humbucking coil for the J pickup. So in short, in a P/J config where the J is a SC, anytime the bridge pickup is used, it hums.

I hardly ever solo the neck pickup, I'm always either blended or favoring the bridge, so that would guarantee me endless hum, so I'd absolutely need to have that bridge pickup as humbucker in any P/J I'd own.

Ok, I just got off the phone with Lull's shop.

The J is a custom SD basslines split coil humbucking config, so you'll be fine on the hum issue (there shouldn't be one). I also very much prefer the split coil configs to the dual coil configs... I think they bite more... more like SC's do.

Also just for my own curiosity, I asked about the 70's spacing and he said they could do it as a custom option, and have done it before.

Just an FYI.

Your new bass should FRIGGIN' KILL!!!!

Great, I will tell Jay and get that in. Vic, again, you rock my friend.:bassist:

Are you talking about the 70's spacing? I was more referring to myself on that part, for any Lull I might potentially order. I didn't know if that was something you wanted or not.

So if you're saying you're getting that too, I'm almost afraid to check that thing out... uh oh...

Yeah man, I wanted it myself. It is set man.

I hope to have it in my hands sometime this week.

Tom.

very cool... interested to hear how it sounds with that big block p/up.

That is actually a custom setup from Pete. It has two of his hotter bridge pickups (which are split-coil, like little 'mini-P-bass' pickups), wired such that I can get a 'regular-P' coil setup, a 'reverse-P' coil setup, both in series, or both in parallel. Pete and I worked on this idea for a while, and though I have not played it yet, according to Pete (and the folks who have played it), this setup kills!

bunch of pix eh?

Yeah, just a few (from my buddy, Juneau). :p

Tom.

Right now I am waiting for my first custom 5 string fretless.
It will be a Bassculture 5F.
Specs will be as follows:
*red alder body with pearwood top and back
*laminated maple center neck with two mahogany and two jatoba stripes
*ebony scale (34 inch)
*black hipshot tuners
*ebony bridge and knobs (for volume only)
*1 custom humbucker magnetic PU with pearwood top
*1 custom piezo
* bassculture black strings
For now I just have a pic of the neck

Warning - ERBs can be very addictive and damaging for your wallet / finances. Not more than 6 months after picking up my 'final' SEI 8 string fretless, I'm back in the waiting club for another SEI...:help: Specs for this one are:
  • Ripple ash single cut custom shape chambered body
  • Flamed maple through neck, with walnut & either purpleheart or bloodwood stringers (35” scale length)
  • Amboyna burl front & back body facings
  • Honduran Rosewood burl front & back headstock facings
  • Fretted jet black ebony board with Honduran Rosewood burl position inlays (amboyna burl @ octaves) & Rosewood binding
  • Single Delano pickup (Musicman style) & Audere circuitry
  • Possibly piezo or midi or both!
  • Black hardware
  • 9 strings (tuned low F# through high A#)

I placed the order only a couple of weeks ago, so its got to be a good 12 months to go.

Lots of lovely basses recently by the way. Especially digging the ACG's, the MPG Level 6, Bassjigga's bass and Rowsdower facings on page 1.

Bassmaned - Have you got your long awaited bass yet?

SEI24bass:
Wow, I thought us United State-ians were supposed to be the guilty masters of excess!!:hiding:;)
Sounds like the best kind of intense. Loved the fretless 8.
My unsolicited vote: Bloodwood stringers. IMO it would better match the Amboyna.

Question; how many truss rods are in your 8er?
I just recently agreed to switch from 2 rods to 1 on my Ramirez 7, and it looks like
SEI is one of the only other builders to use only one t-rod on some of their ERBs.
