Custom cab...Kinda Concerned

You have several symptoms of a supplier under duress based on the OP. At this stage who cares what their excuses are. Their actions are telling you everything you need to know. Get your money back and move on. my 2 cents.

Thanks for the replies gents. I'm looking into all avenues and am going to try to talk to the builder once more with a more business-y attitude (have been all buddy-buddy up till now). I just want some straight answers from them before I decide whether or not to cut ties. I am not releasing the name of the builder yet because, aside from a couple controversial facebook events (only hint that will be dropped), they have excellent reviews and a lot of bands/bassists I really respect and enjoy use their cabs and swear by them. It's not a name I really want to bad mouth until I know for sure I should. If I can't get ahold of them or continue to get the run around, I will of course let everyone know whom it is and to be wary.

If it is what I think it is, yeah...bail now.

It isn't actually a whole custom design aside from covering/color. The design is already done, all they have to do is assemble it. Should never take this long and they shouldn't have taken the deposit until they were ready to order parts and start building.

People really need to get written agreements/contracts for this stuff. Any legitimate business would not have a problem signing a contract with delivery dates, quality expectations, and warranty offered. "Custom" is usually non-refundable, but it would say so on the contract, along with maximum delivery time.

Emperor, eh? Well it's not like they have a track record for not building stuff that gets ordered, but I can't exactly call them a professional outfit after that Jim Marshall fiasco.

I know the OP hasn`t named names yet but if it is the company from his wish list.....well I`m surprised at their lack of professionalism. They`ve been around long enough to know how to treat a customer properly.
Hell,there was a time I wanted a cab or 2 from them.
I hope all goes well for the OP!

I don't have the exact quotes but they were pretty much badmouthing Jim Marshall after/during the time it was publicly announced he had died. Really tasteless stuff.

Somebody around here must've saved a screenshot or facebook conversation of it.

Of course they came back the next day and issued an apology.....only because they pretty much had to to save face.

It would be like somebody talking bad about your dead loved one, then saying "oops, sorry" the next day, as if that changes anything they already thought and said.

There are some nice little custom shops in Germany that built wonderful bass cabs. My favourite is so busy, you have to wait about three month before your cab comes to you.

But: Everybody knows that. He has an open scedule list on his website, you can have a look how much cabs are built before yours and how long it will last and what cabs are built in this very moment.

AND: When he has built your cab he gives you a call, you pay and he is shipping your order right after the money comes in. Ultra fair, isn't it? No payment for cabs that are not built, he keeps all the risk. If someone does not pay, he takes the cabs in stock and sells them to somebody who wants the cab. Because he is known for his fine cabs, he has no problems in selling cabs that have not been payed by the orderer.

FMC, the name of the custom shop, builts anything with 8'' -, 10'' - 12''- and 15'' - woofers you can imagine. He builts cabs with a tweeter and a 6''- or 8'' - midrange-speaker, anything switchable and dialable. Very versatile cabs. And if you are looking for something weird like a 4x15''-cab, just call him, he tells you how much and how long.

I had the chance to play over his 410''-cabs, his 212'', and 2 x 115'' - cabs. All his products are awesome. I just fill in a link to his page, just to give you an idea of how much he has to offer.

I'm not sure what 'pictures' you're after. once they start your build it'll be done within 48hours.

How custom was your order? Did they have to order speakers for you? Special hard to source vintage marshall handles? Maybe they're waiting for a custom element before starting your order. ie: there's no point in constructing your special purple tinted box with checkered gold piped tolex yet if they're waiting for some custom order Fane speakers from across the pond & dragon tipped machined rivets from china. (completely fabricated scenario, but still plausible).

It's not just the wait. It's the taking of deposit money and then blowing off of the customer......no, or very little very late communication.

They also claimed to have fired the person responsible, which didn't tally with the way people visiting see the same 3 guys that are there staff were there before and after the incident.
