Yeah, there's the tricky part. It requires a bit of extra work to pull off. But the end result looks very clean.and then glue the ends?

you are correct, I don't put them in MY necks and I don't like them, personally. But the customer requested them, so he gets them.
I dont know whether or not the CF rods help.. Its just a matter of I've always owned basses that have them so I decided to go with them.
Out of curiosity, why dont you like them?
Bobby, as long as you're checking out this thread, and in case you want the opinion of the TBers, there are two choices for the matching covers. I had some left over from the stock used for the blocks which is slightly darker amboyna burl than the top, but it doesn't have sapwood in it (which may be good since there's no sap to match in the center of the body where the pickups will go) or some with sap to match the rest of the body.

All thinks being equal, I like the matching ones, especially if you can get both sides of the sappy goodness on the pickup covers. That would be Suuhweeet!oh, I forgot to say, I like the one that matches the top.

Sorry, my brain isnt working today.. Are you suggesting using
Option 1
the darker amboyna so it matches since there is no sap where the pickups are but have it be different shades of red?
or
Option 2
use the left over that has the sap in it to match the whole top?
I like the sappy ones.
oh, and someone asked what the binding was ...that's bloodwood.
Out of curiosity, would there be anyway to get a picture of the body wet down along with the two pickup cover options wet down also (maybe off to the side in the picture) so I can photoshop both on to see which I would like better?
If not, or if you're too busy, no biggy.. Just thought it would be easier to visualize it..
it would normally not be a problem, but I used the last of the naptha for the fingerboard shotI don't have any solvents in the shop today, but I have to urgently go out and get some denatured alcohol and acetone this week. sorry.
spit shine??
On second thought, pass on that...

Like right here... would look KILLER...
The sappy burl on the covers will make the pickups sound much better.......![]()
if you took any pictures of the process could you maybe do a how to on block inlaying/binding?
