CuteCube² Guitar - Play-in System for String Instruments

Sorry, I wasn't questioning your editing skills. It was late here and I was tired and worded it badly.

What I actually meant was that I couldn't tell from the difference in tone where the edits occurred (and I doubt that the OP could either).

I should be apologizing, but I won't due to how trivial this is! Anyway, I DID say "spot the edits" where I should have said "Can you hear the obvious difference in tone where I have cut back and forth."

Silence from OP so far. And to be clear, this is not a trick: there are at least 5 "edits" in the 18 second clip.

I've been waiting for just the right time to suggest adding a vibrator into the mix, but so far I've been really scared my basses might not be into the idea, and I just don't want to lose any of them. What do you guys suggest?

The obvious answer is lots of booze. And if you can invite a second bass over for the evening too...

The before and after are nearly useless since the after is so much louder than the before.

Did you normalize these recordings?
No normalizing! Same gain! Basses get louder through the treatment. The tone gets fat and round, clankyness disappears. The volume of your notes all over the fretboard is getting balanced out, no more spots where the bass disappears on stage. Like I wrote earlier, I plucked the strings on both recordings harder than I normally do, so there is no room left for one recording being louder than the other caused by plucking strength. Next recording is coming on Thursday.

Can you tell where the edits are in the clip BadJazz posted?

Right...but you've got to realize all the psychological and physical variables at work that could be used to explain that volume difference away and refute your claim.

To name just one (which was mentioned earlier in the thread), there is the fact merely believing the machine works can and will effect your "after" performance, regardless of how hard you consciously try to exactly replicate the "before" performance.

If you had normalized the files (or enabled them for download so that we could experiment on them ourselves) we would at least be able to account for the perceived tonal variance louder volume carries with it.

FWIW, I would have described the "after" take as brighter, not fatter and rounder, though I will agree with you that the volume across the whole performance did seem more consistent. Unfortunately, those two characteristics (brighter and more compressed) are the same effect you get from playing harder, which, as we've discussed, is a variable you've not remotely adequately controlled for.

Actually track A peaked higher by .3, and overall I found the tracks to be very similar in volume and tone, hence my test file. Hopefully OP will give it a listen and fancy a guess. My bet is he will not get it correct at all.

Hey, I appreciate the time you took for creating the test file. It's not about me, it's all about if you guys can tell a difference. I'm not a troll, fool or like to waste peoples time as I don't appreciate people wasting my time. I've been making a living off playing my bass since high school, can't stand BS of any kind, very serious about what I do. I don't do drugs either. I know what this device does because I use it all the time, wish I could have posted my bass so everybody could have played it before and after. The sound you hear from the bass running with the cube changes through treatment unmistakeably. First you only hear only mid and treble, after a couple of days you hear the bass line playing. It literally appears out of the blue. It gets stronger and stronger. I wish I had a Piezo PU or Neumann mike to record what the wood of the bass plays back before and after, sorry I don't own neither of both. I'm trying to to give ya'll the most objective test results as possible. Doing my best. Next sample is coming on Thursday, last one Thursday of next week. Again, trying my best to give you guys true test results...probably could have been done better with more sophisticated ankles. If any of you guys decides to give the cube a try, maybe you can do a much better test than me.

So far, no one has even fancied a guess, since no one can hear a difference. You made the clips, surely you can tell the obvious improvements in tone and point out all the edits.

"If only I have a mass spectrometer, a robot bassist, an anechoic test chamber, and NASA-grade boundary mics to pick up the obvious massive differences (all improvements) in tone."

This is turning into a joke.

There's nothing inherently special about this device. It's the same as any of those other devices that turn a flat surface into a speaker. Here's the actual website for the CuteCube²:

[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Notice that it makes no reference to attaching it to a guitar. It's intended only for listening to music. Here's one on Amazon that does the exact same thing for less than a quarter of the price:

Amazon.com: Blue 360° Vibration Resonance Mini Music Speaker for MP3 PC Phones iphone iPad iPod with Remote + FREE Excelvan Card Reader: Computers & Accessories

It'll "work" equally as well when attached to a guitar.

I am starting to suspect that a long-con is at play. Take the first test clips: he claims there is an obvious difference in the clips. No one else notices these obvious differences, and he doesn't respond to numerous requests to point out the "edits" I posted above. Now he's claiming the affect of the vibrator is slowly becoming even more noticeable, and has gone so far as to schedule weekly new clips. However, without witnesses or video evidence of this, we have no idea what he is actually recording.

In short, he can now easily juice the results little by little and claim the vibrator is responsible for the improvements in tone, playability, etc, without a shred of actual evidence. And some people will fall for it, unfortunately.

UPDATE!

Just got back from gig and played a couple of notes on the JB, it already woke up after 3 days of treatment.

Much more balanced, stable bottom, sweet sound and way better response. I could take it to a gig now!

Here the two files for comparison.

BEFORE TREATMENT MARCH 5th 2015

AFTER 3 DAYS OF TREATMENT MARCH 8th 2015

I'll post the next recording on coming thursday :)

Sounds pretty much the same before and after ...

The snake oil didn't seem to change anything ... not that anybody expected any change.
