CWB 12 - The Dirty Dozen

I picked up a sunburst Road Worn jazz somewhere along the way, too. Feels like I've had it forever. IMO, they live up to the hype, but I bought it unintentionally.
I was trying to mentally brace my wife for the news that I had every intention of buying a Sting bass from a TB'r. So I took her with me to the music store, a local Mom & Pop, and I started playing the Squier Pine bodied CV 50's P bass. Then I say, I can get a real Sting model for just a 150-200 more, and it will retain that value...seems like a good plan.
Well, she asked me what the best bass was in the store. I say there is no "best"...but most likely if any pro pulled into town and the airlines lost his bass and he needed one for a show, he would prolly pick the RW jazz. Then I played it, and said definitely, the RW jazz.
I keep playing it, she walks off. Others come buy and comment about how they love it, but wouldn't pay for a bass that wasn't shiny and new looking. I say I don't care, and my wife comes back from somewhere and says, "Nope he doesn't care". Then she says "Just get it"...and I say "what?"
It was listed as $999....the bass dude/manager came out and said he'd knock off another hundred. So, a brand new (2008 model) RW Jazz for $899, with wife's instant approval...I couldn't pass it up. And like I said before, now it feels like I've had it forever.

Underwire basses could be awesome, but they'll have to figure out how to keep them from feeling like the underwire concept was designed by a failing architecture student. A teeny little twist in one of those wires and it goes from "amazing support" to "girders poking into those special little soft places."

Finally got my newest toy back! :hyper:

I've played 5-strings exclusively and my instructor has been playing 5's and 6's for many years and we've both been talking about getting a 4 to try a "getting back to basics" kind of thing. A month or so ago he got a Tobias Toby Pro 4-string on eBay and brought it in for my lesson. I had heard mostly not-so-great things about them (mostly about the electronics) but this one played really nice and sounded pretty good too, at least in his hands. It was also pretty nice looking, too.

That weekend he called me and said he was browsing in a pawn shop in Philly and while he was there someone brought in that exact same bass to sell. I met him there the next day to check it out and I ended up buying it. I also ended up having second thoughts because I rarely rush into bigger purchase like I did this time. But it was mine now and I was stuck with it.

It took a while to get it set up decently, but once I did that I kind of liked the way it felt. But I was used to 3-band EQ on all my basses and this was only 2-band. Not bad, but it didn't have the controls I preferred (I like having control over the mids). A couple of weeks later I saw a great deal on a 4-band Audere preamp here on TB so I bought that to put into the Toby. I finally picked it up at the luthier's shop and was able to take it into my lesson that night. Now my instructor wants to put the same preamp in his. :D

I know, I Know, no pics, no bass. Hopefully this weekend.

And now I want another four .... :help:

What a weird day. My co-worker decided to take the day off, then my phone goes wonky on me. I spent a few hours resuscitating the thing back to life. I am now enjoying a beer.

Earlier this week my band found out that our second guitarist pretty much quit..so now we are back on the hunt for another member. The bandleader wants a keys player now.

Keys is a good call if you find one. Works on lead or rhythm.

Me, with Brandon Hood, the bassist from Built by Speed. They played tonight at House of Blues Orlando and opened for Tesla on the Twisted Wires acoustic tour. Absolutely amazing show (that picture is not all I got - autographs and one of the picks he used in the show are in my scrapbook, too).

Special surprise tonight - Pat Travers was in the house and came out to do the second encore with Tesla. Totally rocked. There is video. iPhone video, but video all the same. It's just taking a while to upload.
