CWB 15: 15 minutes or bust!

I played one of those at GC a few weeks ago and thought it was sweet for the price ( they were blowing some out for like $150 or so)

SansAmp will definitely be nice for tone shaping. Honestly brother if you are looking for a fat sounding amp at the $500 price point, I'd look into a MarkBass LMII or LMIII. They sound great set flat ( more like a prebuilt-in sound) and have two filters that can do drastic changes to the tone by just a knob swipe. I've had a few of them and always ran them flat with the VLE off and the VLP at about 9:00. I like a sound in-between what you and Tat are describing. Mids need to be present.

I'd say my ideal tone is playing a Steinway with a ball peen hammer that I can control the attack with my hands. Yeah Baby!!! ball-peen on a Steinway!!!!

I bought an X3 Live pedal board a few months ago. I programmed a bunch of presets for 3 different amps, Bryston 4B into Peavey 410TVX, Peavey 160 Combo (direct into power amp in) and my Yorkville XS400 2-10 combo. I was able to dial up what I wanted with the first 2 rigs but I've struggled with my Yorkville set up. I was running it direct into the power amp, bypassing the entire preamp circuit but changed it up at my last country gig and ran the X3 back into the pre-amp. Set all my EQ settings flat and dialed up the Tube Pre and instant Nirvanna.

The first 2 rigs are for a couple of rock trio's I play with, dialing up presets for those were a piece of cake.

I've always struggled to get the Country sound I wanted and I think I've finally found it.

That works out pretty well ( nice tambo too Tat )! :)

It's tough with darker stages to get a good vid. The mic sounded about like the others I checked out. None of them are too high tech. overall how do you like it?

I picked that amp up for 90 bucks at GC. I can't really knock it.

I do like MarkBass stuff. One of those amps is under consideration. I also like mids to be present.

We had the disadvantage of an inexperienced camera kid using my gear at that show. John's cam was mounted on a tripod and his son did the other vids on my camera. He had his hand over the mic for about 1/2 the show. :eek: He'll learn though.

All in all, I really like it. It fits well in my palm. Has a side strap to help stabilize. A smart-sensor on the screen to tell me if I'm panning too fast. A light for darker/flash required situations (kid didn't use that). And - about 4 hours of vid direct to the drive without having to swap chips. Battery life on full charge is somewhere in the neighborhood of the disc space (I haven't bumped either one in use yet).

Probably the best part is when I pack the camera bag now, I can fit my old film SLR with three lenses, a dozen film cans, the video camera, the digital camera, and my wallet all in the same bag and I don't have to carry a bunch of extra gear.

I couldn't hear Lucy making noise at all - but then - my dog is laying under my feet chewing on a bone and it sounds like he's gnawing on the house itself.

I have to resist the urge to just pack up my gear and stop trying. You're just sick. LOL. Although I mean that in the best kind of way. I can only aspire to listen well to your videos since I doubt I'll ever play like that.

Your vids looked good. lighting is key and of course movement jacks things. You still rocked the Tambo! :)

I think that vid illustrates the point of a hammer on a piano. Is it wrong to love a bass? :)

Thanks! I didn't think I did too bad for learning how to do that the night before. I didn't even know I was going on stage with them until that last rehearsal. Then I got the....."come'ere little girl. See this. It's called a tambourine. You know about rhythm. Play this - and get your d@mned hands out of your pockets or I'm gonna get off this throne and smack ya."

If you watch closely in one of the videos, you can see that I lost my timing and John was shaking his fist at me and laughing. I told him he should be happy with what he got since I'd never even picked one of those up prior to the night before. If he didn't like it, I could put my hands back in my pockets. LOLOL.

It's never wrong to love a bass - but I would not have called that a hammer on a piano. It was more earthy than that.

I'd steer clear of the Ampeg micro gear. My good buddy works at GC and he sees them coming back in a lot. The GK combos are coming back in a bunch too.

The Acoustic heads might be something you'd like. Their Eq section is simple but effective. They have always sounded nice to me. Conservatively rated too. Something to consider for sure.

For midrange bliss you may want to check out some speaker configurations with 12's. I've always preferred them for fretless which is all about the mids.
