CWB 15: 15 minutes or bust!

Cool - we can shop together!!!! I stopped at GC on the way home from work yesterday to look at heads and cabs. Didn't see anything I liked, but I did futz around with a Rickenbacker for a while. I'm not sure I liked it. I figure if I have to ponder, then I didn't like it that much.

I have yet to mess around with a Ric.

What are you looking for in regards to cab and head? I'm looking for an amp that is between 500W and 750W. I am considering the Ampeg PF500, but I am not sold on it yet.

I have no idea. I only know that I'll know it when I hear it. It just has to meet certain criteria.....

  • It has to sound thick - like the air in a Louisiana swamp at 2PM in late July about 20 minutes before it rains
  • It has to feel fat - like when you chase Long John Silver's with Ben and Jerry's
  • With the volume at or below 5, I need to feel the air move against my skin and I'm not talking about a fan
  • I need to feel it in the floor with bare feet, regardless of what kind of floor I'm standing on
  • It has to make people wonder how I got it up there
  • Must have a WP-Factor greater than 25

The last two garnered a chuckle out of me. I'm with you on some of your requirements, with the exception of:

Warm, thick tone, but not muddy. I like clear, present mids.
Weight isn't a huge consideration. My cabinet weighs 90lbs by itself.

#1 isn't muddy. I don't like muddy. But it's warm and wet and thick and you can feel it pressing on your chest....and your special place.

So now - my room lacks seating. I have one high backed office chair on wheels. It's not really good for playing bass, and I don't have any other seating in the room. I'm thinking...instead of chairs, I might build a couple of padded benches that can double as storage. Something not to tall and not too short, heavily cushioned on top, and maybe covered in a deep burgundy or chocolate brown microsuede. What do you think?

Drummer- you have my thoughts and prayers. Sometimes nothing makes sense and everything feels out of whack. You have much love from the crew. Everyone is different in how they deal with such things: art, music, some spirits, family, friends. Work over those drums or that beautiful new Pbass for a few hours.

Hey Hey back at cha! :)

After seeing your handy work, I think we need a multi-state remodeling business Tat :)

I picked up a little HD video camera today and broke it out after job #2 to monkey with it. Not really sure if all the muffled sound and chuffing is that of Lucy spinning like a washing machine behind the camera or having the mic gain a tic too high.

I am now abandoning the plan to add a midrange driver to the cab. I am now on the hunt for a better amp than what I have currently.

I picked up the Kodak Play Sport (what ever the new model is ). Only like $119 how can you beat it? It's even water proof. The sound is meh ok, not like the Tascam DR. I originally wanted a Zoom, but a friend of mine uses it regularly and said although the audio is nice, the video sucks.

Was going to get a Samsung, but it wasn't compatible with my iMac. :(

I took this with it about an hour ago. the interesting thing will be when I have the amp above a whisper how it will handle the volume. It's nice that it has a mic gain that you can easily access. Also can shoot underwater for what the hell I'd use that for idk unless I dropped it in a bowl of cereal or my coffee.

I got the Panasonic SDR-H100. Sound's not bad, picture's pretty good. And it comes with so-so editing software once you figure out how to use it. That's the part that took me longer. LOL.

You asked for this - so no whimpering if your ears hurt later. This was from a gig in October that my friend John's band did at the local library. I sang back-up for that show.
