It is awesome. I actually have my customized cheapo version of it, consisting of a '51 P reissue which I modified to put in this Seymour Duncan vintage style single coil pickup:

the end result is the bass on the right:
I'm very happy with the sound of this bass and use it with a blues/oldies group that will probably start gigging this summer. However, up close the look and feel is nothing like the real thing at the top of this post. Mine is made in Japan and has a glossy finish that looks pretty cheesy up close, although it's fine with me for what I use it for. The real '53 has beautiful old wood and a ton of mojo.
(however, mine set me back like $750 - $500 for the bass and $250 for the modifications. $12,500 is a lot for the mojo.)
