CWB: 24 Have Two-Four; Will Travel

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!! I made it back safely to Georgia.

DT - that TSO thing sounds pretty cool! Were you able to snag any pics?

Pics of what? They kept us so busy that I didn't even have a chance to grab pics, and as soon as load-in was done, they kicked us out. When we came back to do the load-out, they kept us hidden until the show was over - which we were not allowed to see.

I will never complain about the petty load-in/out my band does again.

Thanksgiving was good for us - it's our one 'big' holiday of the year.

Glad you're back home safe - we made one foray outside the house all weekend, and just to the local mall for provisions (and early at that). I have no beef with the 'Black Friday Frenzy' folks - but it's not our scene. Snug and warm in front of the fire - now you're talkin' !

We once did a gig at a sports show at a convention center in Cleveland on the lake. Evidently the stage hands union is big in Cleveland and when we went to load out we were told we could not touch our own equipment. Not only would my drum kit only fit one way in my Anvil road cases but our equipment would only fit on the truck one way. It was a cluster **** until a union steward with some sense finally showed up and chilled everybody out.

made it back in one piece. Sharks beat the ducks in a shootout. I thought it would be over when the Ducks got a power play in overtime, but the Sharks pulled it off.
the shark tank holds 17,562 fans, and it was a sellout crowd. Part of the fun was just walking through the bars afterwards, and seeing all the fans celebrate.

Hey there peeps. Sounds like many of you had an enjoyable Thanksgiving. :) I wish I could say the same - it's been a bit of a rough week. Had a gig Wed. night that started off great but ended in disaster (details in a bit); had a number of unexpected guests on Thanksgiving (not of the sweet Great Aunt Myrtle variety, more of the questionable friends that my questionable nephew brought along because they had nowhere else to go variety); we had to end out traditional black Friday outing early because my cold turned into bronchitis/ pneumonia (it's not really about the shopping for us; it's about having uninterrupted girl time where we can lapse into sleep-deprived silliness); and I ended the week by being on-call this weekend (the one part of my job I truly hate). I guess if there's something I'm thankful for, it's that Thanksgiving week is over, lol.

So, details on the gig... It started out great. We were tighter musically than at our last gig, and being the night before Thanksgiving, (most) everyone was relaxed and in a celebratory mood. To make things better, a bassist friend of mine who was really helpful to me in Sonic Cherry days (taught me the 12 bar blues back when I'd only been playing a couple of months) came out to see the show and agreed to sit in for a few songs so I could dance with my girls. Yay!! Getting to dance and play music and hang a little with my family/ friends... I was loving this gig. This vid was early in the night...

Then around midnight, as the bar was in full swing, our hothead drummer completely lost it over being jealous of some guy dancing with his wife (there was no grinding happening - they weren't even touching each other, just dancing) and threw his drumsticks across a crowded dance floor to try to hit the guy. Missed him completely, but knocked a girl's beer over on a table behind him, spilling it all over her. Then he came from behind his drumset (in the middle of a song, mind you) and attacked the guy. My hubby pulled him off the guy after only one hit, but he had knocked the guy down. Bar erupted with folks now ticked and screaming at the drummer and ready to kill him. Bar owner told us we'd better get the drummer out of there quick bc it was not looking good. I was sure he was gonna get jumped the minute he stepped outside. Somehow he managed to get his drum kit out and leave without further incident, in no small part thanks to my hubz and brother-in-law (who I did not ask to keep the peace, but they chose to help get the drummer out of there safely anyway - later they said they just didn't want me to have a worse night by more fighting, and of course no one wanted the cops called either...). So, gig ended early; bar (understandably) refused to pay us; and no more fun for that night. :/

The good news, though, is that we had a contingency plan bc it was looking like something could go bad with this drummer (we just didn't expect it to go so spectacularly bad and at a gig!) - and we have a sub in place already for the upcoming gigs (we are scheduled through May, the next one in is two weeks). Plus I'm hoping to get our old drummer (the one we had prior to hotheaded drummer) back after his surgery. He's a fantastic drummer, nice, dependable, fun, and locking in with him was effortless. (Funny how you don't know how much you've really enjoyed someone until you miss them!) So it will all work out I think.

And anitbiotics, steroids, and breathing treatments are starting to help clear my lungs so that's been better too.

Anyway, sending warm thoughts out to all of you, and I sincerely hope that any of you who had gigs this week had far better experiences, lol.

PA, it exhausted me just reading about the antics of your Thanksgiving. Whew! I once had a drummer come out from behind his kit. We were playing for a private barn party. Set up in the loft. Middle of a song the drums just disappeared. I turned around and the drummer had also just disappeared. Turned out he had fallen over backwards off his throne and out of the loft window. Luckily he landed on his head so he wasn't hurt.

wow PA - feel better soon and all that other stuff will turn around too! Some gig story. I know in the short run it's not good for the band, but it will make a great story for the grandchildren ... I'm sure over time it will morph into your band starting a full-out brawl with you swinging your bass. :bassist:

PA - glad you guys were able to get the drummer out of there before any more trouble happened. I certainly hope your band can get the original drummer back..I wouldn't be able to hang out with a hot-headed person like that. Kudos to your husband for handling the situation!! Glad you are feeling better as well.

Mike, I'm really digging the P/J thing..that Yamaha bass is so awesome!! I don't miss the 'Ray at all.

C3!! Hope you are doing fine man, you've been missed!

I think your drummer could be excused for that. PA's...maybe not so much.

Makes me wonder what your drummer must have been smoking to fall out of a window, lol. Maybe if my drummer had been smoking something too, he'd have been a little more laid back!

Good to see you around again! :) Yeah, I keep telling myself it's gonna be a funny story one day. Bar fight actually is on my bucket list, lol. I should have just joined in.

YIKES!

PA, that does not sound like a good gig.

(Drummers... SHEESH!) ;)

I'm glad that you are feeling better.

And you do have another backup drummer 3 hours away.

I had forgotten how close you are to me. How is it we haven't met irl yet?

Thanks, DT. Yeah, the hubz must be a nicer person than I am because I think I'd have just left him to fend off the angry mob himself.

Holy crap PA! Quite the weekend you had! Don't need to have that crazy drummer back in your band!

We have a gig booked in a small bar Feb 8 in Toronto. Time to kick rehearsal into high gear!

You are right about that, BassGen. And I hope your gig has far less craziness than mine did. Keep us posted on how it goes.

She's a beaut, Drummer! :bassist:
