CWB: 24 Have Two-Four; Will Travel

This afternoon I got a call to see if I can fill in on drums for a gig on December 20th with a classic rock band.
I've never met any of these guys (that I know of), they heard of me through word of mouth. They are sending me the set list tonight, I'm practicing with them on Tuesday.

We've already seen 15ºF but this week it's been 50's.
More cold is coming - we're getting what the west has been getting next week.
No snow here either.
Full oil tank and a cord of firewood - we'll be good for a while.

It's going down to 0F here tonight. Since I quit playing hockey oh so many years ago I hate winter. Never had the urge to take up skiing even though I live 1/2 hour away from one of the best ski hills in Canada.

just looked at the weather forecast. predicting 14 hear, tonight, with snow flurries tomorrow. if it puts down a few inches, I can go play on the snow mobile
If not, I am warming the shop up, and repainting a MIM fender jazz bass. it is going to be gloss black with a chrome pickguard (matching headstock). I got it in a trade, and don't really want it. I am sure I can get rid of it faster if it looks good.

I got the set list.
It's mix of classic rock and oldies for the most part.
There are 48 songs, I have 14 days until the gig and I'll get two chances to practice with them.
This will be a trial by fire.
I've played most of these songs at one point or another, although some of them not in thirty years. I feel confident that I can pull it off, but it may not be the prettiest gig that I've ever done.
It's mix of classic rock and oldies for the most part.

Oh, you'll do fine, drummer. It's just like riding a bicycle. Or, something like that.
Almost all of you were around when my nephew went missing. Your support during that, the most difficult time of my life made me forever indebted to you all.
It's very hard to believe, but tonight marks two years since he attended that concert and went missing to be found seven weeks later in the river. My family, especially my sister (his mom) has never recovered.
I only bring this up because all of you at TB, particularly the CWB group mean so much to me. You've helped to keep me sane, amused and distracted., thanks again.

There are a lot of good people on this Earth Mike. You figure in that list and a lot of other people who also do felt your pain and did what they could to help comfort and support you. That's what good people do. We should all remember that (and I know that the people who frequent this place do not need a reminder).
CWB has become a place where we can all expose our weaknesses, our vulnerabilities and more and know that we will find support and strength. I've met Tat (and she sang onsatge with my band), had dinner with Chuck and there are many more that I want to meet. A CWB GTG is on my list as soon as I can pull it off. There are good people here.

I was new to this group when that happened, but I definitely remember it. I am glad that this band of misfits was able to help you get through all of it!! I am happy to call you my friend.
