And Fort Worth will be a pretty long drive from the airport in the pouring rain which is forecast for the whole weekend. Dallas too. There should be something good going on in the mid-cities. Sounds like you have some good leads here already.

Good point. Tolbert's in Grapevine might be a destination. There's an Eagles tribute band playing there Friday night. Good spot for Chili, rooms got a great vibe, stage and sound/sound system.

And it's far enough from Jerry World and Globe Life to avoid World Series traffic; Still close enough to take a short hop down 360 for Sunday's noon Cowboys game.

OP, you said you "don't mind driving some" - but keep in mind the DFW metro is the size of the state of Connecticut. People are giving you suggestions that could easily be an hour from each other. Check with Google Maps before committing.

I tried to clump my suggestions together by district and focused on Fort Worth because he said that's where he would likely end up. Even though FW traffic is better than Dallas (generally speaking) I still don't want to mix in a Grandbury to Grapevine drive for back-to-back events.

And for the record... if we're talking old-school BBQ places (which I do not prefer) I'd take Railhead over Angelos. Although both are pretty far down on my list of places I'd take an out-of-towner to. There are so many great BBQ places from some of the younger guys that absolutely blow away any of the older stuff.

Yeah, Railhead for the ribs, in FW and a quarter mile up Montgomery is the massive Dickies Arena hosting KISS! on Friday night, go get you some!

As a former paramedic, I can't tell you how many stops I made at that Sonny Bryan's off Inwood after dropping off patients at Parkland. That place had some good memories and was more of a comfort food/ safe space for a few of us to catch up for a few minutes before heading back to our districts.

There also used to be a great place off Malcolm X Blvd and Dawson (maybe?) just east of I-45. Never knew the name of it... if you didn't know it was a BBQ joint you'd drive right past it and be worried that the building was on fire. Fantastic BBQ and some of the best sweet potato pie I've ever had. Pretty sure it's just a vacant lot now.

Where are you playing post-punk Irish? In my earlier years I was pretty active in the Irish Trad scene around here.

We do a once a month appearance at The Celt in McKinney and Gillespie's in Richardson. They're very nice to us at both places. We also hit the usual festival circuit and get a few private parties and 2-3 weddings a year, along with some civic gigs.

Having a good time so far. We got to Our hotel in Southlake about 7:30 Friday night. We ended up having dinner an Angelos. I will say I can't remember the last time I saw a restaurant close at 9 on a Friday night. Luckily we got there about 8:40. The food was good and the staff was very friendly. From there we went to Billy Bob's. Watched a 4 piece uninspiring country cover band for awhile until Sammy Kershaw took the main stage. We didn't stay for the whole thing but it was fun. That bar is definitely worth seeing. We have what I thought was a huge country bar in Salt Lake City and it might be 1/4 the size of Billy Bob's. Th\oday we drove around in Dallas for awhile and had lunch at MesoMaya. It was very good. Stopped at guitar centre in Dallas and eh... Then went to Ton Shop Guitars which is only about 4 miles from the hotel. Played a nice Stingray HH But nothing else really caught my eye. Cool shop with very friendly staff. Tonight the plan is to go see @cbass1 play with his band in Lewisville. BTW I live in Utah and driving an hour to get somewhere is a daily occurrence so it isn't bad here. I am having a good time and wish I were here for more than a couple of days. Thanks again for all the suggestions.

You guys are at The Celt about as often as we are - We're there this Friday. I love the crowd, vibe and acoustics.

And I'm reminded why it's not at the very top of my favorite-venue list every time I've got gear, about to climb those stairs.

How is the Baseball game impacting the gigs?

Friday: I was surprised and grateful our gig at The Gin in Prosper wasn't cancelled. They had us play outdoors even though it was a little on the cool side - comfortable for those of us on our feet moving around - while Rangers fans watched game 1 on two screens in the closed off bar area and three screens in the covered dining area, which was open and facing the outdoor stage. We had a light crowd who were there for the music, while a much larger crowd watched the game. Only regret there was there was no way we weren't going to know what was going on the game - too many spoilers for those of us who wanted to have the whole experience at home via DVR.

We finished at 10:25, in time to go inside and watch Corey Seager's 2-run-deficit erasing home run in the bottom of the 9th. I stayed all the way through Garcia's 11th-inning, walk-off solo.

Saturday: 6:30-9:30 restaurant gig in Denison. Good size crowd, many to see the band, with a big group coming in from Bonham - BL does a good job entertaining & engaging.

I suspect there are more people who don't care about, or feel they have reasons to not like pro sports the further out you go - Denison is almost to Oklahoma.

No TV's, no clue what was happening with game 2. Got to go home and watch it all on DVR.

I had an early evening gig last night and got to listen to the last two innings on the radio on the drive home. Great reminder of why I don't like listening to sports on the radio anymore... I'm a visual person for things like that.

If I was being generous, the two gigs I went to, were probably affected, but both unable to hold the crowd.
Rooms were high ceilings and hard surfaces and sound wasn't that good. P.A was QSC and band sub. Didn't cut it and bass was lost and with indistinct P Bass. No good sitting in the mix here.

The next had a line P.A for full band which I didn't think would be up to the job, and it wasn't. The best thing about them was guest gtr who drove the band along. He should be a keeper, but fire the other 3 maybe.

Weather outside was perfectly warm enough.
