I’d get the 2. Just for the boost function. The 1 rules too. But I’d love to have that boost feature.

Finally got this on the board, looking forward to giving it a spin and finding an always on tone, thanks for the perfectly sized redesign, rapid shipping and lovely extras @father of fires !

I have been comparing both MBD 1 vs 2 and I find a mild difference. So far the 1 may have a tad more depth and air. Dial settings set the same on both doesn’t seem to produce equal tonality although close. Seems that I have to tweak the 2 to get it close to the 1. I need more tweet time being that I’m used to the 1. Anyone find that to be similar situation.

I bet if you played with the internal trim pots on the 1, the two would sound the same with the 2's boost switch off.

You gotta remember too, pedal to pedal, it’s gonna differ slightly. Pot values are never an exact science from what I’ve read. So I imagine from the 1 to 2, it’ll vary slightly. Buy I imagine, it’s the same pedal. With an added boost. For the most part. But yeah, you may not get the exact values on the pots when set the same on both pedals.

Yes and the circuit boards are different when you look under the hood of both pedals. The 2 doesn’t have the tweakable pots. They both have the general same sonic quality. Also the more the 2 is used it seems to shape up a bit. Time will tell...regardless I still recommend both versions.

That's for sure. My tone and volume pots on my Ric were supposed to be 250K ones.
Mine read out at around 190K each!
Doesn't matter, those tone pots got replaced with no-load ones, and run wide-open.

I recently replaced all my 250k pots in my Precision with 500's. Opened that bass up a lot.

I briefly owned an MBD-1 but haven't had it in a while to compare. I tend to not care much about those things though. The MBD-2 ticks off the right boxes for me. It's one of those pedals that doesn't sound as good solo'd as it does in a dense mix. I bet the differences in the 1 vs 2 are very minor.

The differences are even less then minor. What I like also is turning the gain all the way down and kicking in the 20db ....really nice. Playtime!

I would imagine you are right about the differences being minor.

The 20db switch is great. I am actually liking it with the switch down with my 4003 so I can really fine tune the low gain settings. I bought this pedal for low gain applications. I am really finding too much gain or distortion to be really distracting nowadays, but the "touch of hair" sound is really doing it for me and the MBD-2 really excells at that.
