Agree and both 1 or 2 versions excel at a low drive tone and that’s why I like them. To my ears the 2 has a sight break in period out of the box. In my case with drive down and 20 dB up is as extreme as I need to go for the stuff I’m playing with a six string active. Although with 20db down the pedal has plenty of good variability.

Damn, big-box MBD-1s are plummeting in value with the release of the 2. There's a grey one just like my SE on Reverb for like $130. Tempting to buy it on principle at that price (if I didn't already own two) Good deals to be had!
I wanted to like this but I didn't since I'm trying to sell my gold MBD-1. A little disappointing since I need the cash but so it goes.
I know this is biased and might come across as shelling, but I genuinely have more of a soul connection to the big box more, and when I have the cash I'll get one again. I think it fits the aesthetic of the MBD tone more than the smaller enclosure. Again though, I understand the appeal.

I was expecting this to happen. I love my 2 and feel no need to revisit 1, but I guess good deals can be had if one wants a 1 for collecting purposes. Just the nature of the beast. New version comes out, old versions become instant paperweights.
That was actually mine - I was pretty tempted to keep it alongside my MBD-2, but it was never going to fit on my board with the current setup. Love MBDs though.

I definitely have an internal debate about what to do with the 1. I still love mine and I still have enough parts to build a few more like 30 I think so I plan on keeping them in inventory for big box lovers like myself.
But I can't deny the convenience of the 2 for people with big pedal boards. I'm more of a one pedal at a time guy.

And we thank you for it. I loved my big MBD but jumped on the 2 as I needed the real estate. I play with several bands of different styles so I need quite a few pedals. I managed to sell the 1 locally and the new owner loves it. I told him I debated keeping it or getting another 2 as they are that good. He sent me a message yesterday saying he now understand what I meant as it is so versatile and it would be nice to have several with different tones. I currently have a Terraformer as my 2nd OD but I don’t rule out switching it up for a second MDB.

I've been playing the pedal game trying out several just for fun. I believe I've nailed down what I like but out of boredom/curiosity I've been trying different fuzzes/ods/sweeteners. Nothing comes close to beating the MBD.
I have a feeling I'm going to do a huge purge in 2020 and just end up with a smaller board based around my fav DA pedals and not much else. I see the inevitable coming. My wallet will very happy as well.

I am finding that the MBD-2 sounds much better in a mix than it does by itself. This is a good thing. It almost has too much low end with the shift knob up. My 4003 sounds a lot better with the shift knob down. I wonder why. Personal preference probably. But maybe there is some interaction between the eq points on the MBD2 and the predominant frequencies the 4003 puts out. Or maybe I'm over thinking.
There is nothing quite like coming to a place like this. Simplicity rules. Hopefully you follow through. It's very liberating.
I like it somewhere in between grind it out and excited midrange.
Same here with the MBD-1. Not sure how "apples to apples" the knob positions are between 1 and 2 though.
