When the shift is down, it's scooping mids out. So if you have a mid heavy bass, it works really well with it. I usually switch my shift down either way. I love what the MBD does with all my basses. Jazz, ATK, P, whatever, it works great with all them.
I've told this story here before, but when I first plugged my MBD in, I wasn't sure about it. I didn't think it was doing all that much and felt it was going to be way too dark for my tastes. But once I learned what was doing what, I realized how insanely good it was. I love it on it's own and especially in a band mix. It brings serious thunder as well as top end clarity and grind. You really can't ask for much more. It's so natural sounding too. So to me, it's like a really hot n bothered tube head. Throw that into an already hot n bothered tube head, it's magical!
