I’ve got a Bloop on the way from Prymaxe. I’ve got a drive pedal I really like, other than the fact that it loses a lot of low end. So I’m hoping the Bloop is the cure for that…

Hi folks, just got a MBD2 and it was amazing till I got this issue.
Is it normal to have a big hissing sound when the 20db switch is up + the gain know pushed beyond 1-2 o'clock ? Thanks for the feedback !

IME that 20dB gain switch is utterly useless. even with the GAIN knob at ZERO.

20db boost on and gain set high is a massive amount of gain. You're going to get some white noise in that kind of setup. Especially if you set your amp bright.

Could be the grounding of the electronics from bass to bass. as whoismarykelly stated, it is a high level of gain.

You signal chain without 20dB switch could be nice and quiet and you don't notice it.

Ya. AFAIK the Gain knob goes up to +20 dB on its own, so having Gain at 1-2 o’clock and the switch engaged should be around +30 dB of gain which will introduce noise even in the quietest of rigs.

I’ve said it a few times and I wish in retrospect I made it clearer but the boost switch is like shifting gears in a car. If the max gain is not high enough for your particular bass then put the knob back at 0, flip the switch up and then start over. It’s not meant to be used as an optional high or low gain switch. It’s meant to be used to get the amount of gain you want and then left as is. Diming it is only for basses that need it. With the switch up, the gain at noon is basically max gain before excessive noise can creep in.

But it’s your pedal so use it how you want. I’m just explaining why it might function a little different than some people expect.

I place mine after synth/octave. So it’s usually the first dirt box in my chain of dirt. So I always go early in the dirt chain.

I always ran mine as the first dirt. It stacks better that way IMO and cuts down on noise in my setup.

I run mine in ascending order.

Phat Phuk B->Bass Overdriver->MBD-1->(Fuzz of the week)

The Overdriver has a clean blend as well, so having a little clean mixed with overdrive mixed with MBD beef keeps everything tidy, but massive.

I run my dirt pedals in order of gain…
So always second with the cog mini 66 first.
I tend not to stack it and just use it as a low articulate overdriven grind
