Damnation Audio Fan/Appreciation Thread

Thinking about making some small tweaks with the next batch of Loop Blenders. Any wish list items? No idea too small but keep in mind, I can't do everything I'd like to do unfortunately. Thanks in advance.

Switchable Buffer Buster? Basically ability to toggle between regular and Mammoth Tamer modes.

Low Pass Filter on the loop to cut highs if desired.
Adjustable High Pass Filter on the Cleans. Current built in setting is pretty great, but some folks might want to tweak it.

Lastly one that I wish more Loop Blenders had... A gain control on the "cleans" to grunge them up a bit. Nothing crazy, but a little overdrive/grit on the "cleans" can sound pretty fantastic when mixing with other effects.

Maybe even have a "Low Loop" set of send and return, but yeah... getting WAY past "small tweaks" on several of these! LOL

These are great and verging on a Bloop Deluxe concept. Can I question you on a few of these? Not to critique but to understand your feedback some more.

1. If the pedal is in buffer-less mode as a default what in your opinion could be a good reason to add a buffer?

2.A. Would you need to cut highs with the Bloop that you wouldn't need to cut otherwise with a pedal?
2.B. Do you see the Bloop being something more than just a clean blend, perhaps somethings to "fix" other pedals?

3. Do you mean Adjustable Low Pass filter? To change the amount of highs removed from the "clean" channel? This one has always been a sticking point for me because too much control could lead to the Bloop not being used as intended. But I understand that designer intentions are not the only thing that matter.

4. I have experimented with this and I think it would be good as a way to offer some limiting on the clean lows but just adding dirty lows to a mix (IMHO) does not provide clarity. Would you be looking for more of a "wall-of-sound" vibe with a feature like that?

5. I have not considered a separate loop for the lows but thought about a possible separate send for lows. But then its getting into specialized ABY box territory which I don't think the Bloop would be the best tool for that.

It doesn't escape me that this pedal seems expensive for "just" a clean blend but by leaning on its niche characteristics I think it stands on it's own. Adding too many features may distract from it's main purpose but I'm also a curmudgeon which is why I'm open to customer suggestions because my grumpy opinions don't serve any but me.

A second loop channel would be crazy good, I’d definitely buy a second bloop for that.

I’ve been wanting another dual channel parallel mixer but I heard some bad reviews of the OBNE mixer that turned me off and I don’t want the footprint of the EHX Tri-parallel. I don’t think Saturn works is able to put a phase switch on their loop blenders, I had one a couple years ago and that was my biggest issue

Would both loops use the same blend or would each have their own?

You want to cut highs on the pedal in the loop?

I personally think the way the clean lows are shaped on the bloop is already great. Case use for adjustable lpf on the loop section (pedal in the loop) is removing some of the fizz/bees-in-a-can on dirt pedals without needing an adjustable lpf on your amp or a separate one at the end of your board.

I like my tweeters on for cleaner stuff, delay, etc. but I also like running some distortion/fuzz at higher gain with a lpf after to keep the distorted treble from getting too shrill.

Cut the highs on the clean signal, yes. The Bloop has a fixed LPF at 1k for the clean signal, right? An adjustable LPF on the clean signal would be amazing. I find myself cutting frequencies lower than 1k for the clean signal.

An additional adjustable LPF at the end of the FX loop would be sweet as well.

-I've got a different fuzz pedal that has a "buffer buster" built in, and it's come in surprisingly handy a few times when swapping pedals around to different positions/different signal chains, and being able to experiment with different fuzz pedals in different places with and without buffer via the loop blender could be pretty sweet.

?

-I've run a few dirt pedals with less than stellar tone stacks/controls, and being able to Low Pass off the "fizziness" some had can really help get to a sound I like, without impacting everything else down or upstream. I've used a dedicated adjustable Low Pass after some either inside a loop blender, or without a blender. Having the option all in one could be handy and save some space/power taps.

-Exactly, but honestly, this is probably the bottom of my wish list items. The built in LPF point for the BLOOP now is pretty perfect 95% of the time, and I can dig trying to keep it simple and remove potential "bad settings"/option paralysis.

Totally fair, and wouldn't be much breakup/dirt I'm looking for on the Cleans. Just a little touch of OD. I think the Blackhawk Amps pedals with "clean" blend are not very clean to my ears, and some of them help merge the clean lows and loop effects together into a Wall of Sound/more natural combo of the two signals, that sounded surprisingly good, but not so helpful on the clarity front.

-Nothing at all wrong with sticking to your artistic vision! It's a completely valid point. The everything and the kitchen sink approach quickly runs into "Too much going on, and too much to adjust/mess with trying to get a good sound, and more "bad" sounds than good with increased control and flexibility.

Honestly, after thinking about it more, if I had to pick just one, it would be an adjustable light overdrive/gain control on the cleans. Mostly because it's a very unique thing that nobody else has really done before in this format for s loop blender.

I think the trick is not to lower the cut off point but to adjust the shape of the filter. I have found a way to add a bigger gut punch to the lows. Stay tuned on that regard!

About the loop: How about a fixed low pass on the loop around 5-7kHz as a permanent fizz killer?

I would happily take advantage of both of these tweaks if they make it into the next round.
