Do you have a plot of the dry signal vs what it's doing when engaged?
I recall it's actively boosting lows, scooping mids, and cutting some highs.

The way I hear it, it’s cutting low mids between 200-400Hz while boosting the range between 60-150 hz. It also cuts treble severely starting around 1KHz and above, like a shelving filter. The midrange between 500-900ish Hz is processed less than the other frequencies.
The appearance of more bass and the absence of treble and muddy low mid make the 500-900 Hz band pop out, making for a very punchy and articulate clean tone that sits beneath the fuzz and distortion without clanky string noise getting in the way

Having the 1, 2, and MBD,
I dial in the blend between the first two and the 3 differently.
The new blend has far less "nose"(midrange) on it than the previous two.
Either way, I like it, and appreciate what it brings to the table.

Just decided to try the low blend by itself (I honestly don’t think I’ve tried it solo before!) and I had it running into a DCX Boost with a little bass boost and decent high boost. Instant phat dubby finger tone!!! Sounded so good!! Just another awesome sound I can use the MBD3 for!

Just goes to show, using things in an unconventional way, can yield some favorable results.
I remember when I got my MBD-1, and used it "normally".
Leaning on the distortion side, adding clean for thickness.
When I got the 2, I tried something different.
Favoring the clean side, and using the distortion side for highs and grit.

IIRC, the Pultec "trick" came about by going against the manuals instruction.

This works great with the Loop Blender too. I haven't tried it with the Contour yet, but I remember using Jeff's suggested Roots/Dub Machine settings for the Bloop. It was simply running the Bass into IN, OUT into amp, with nothing in the loop for fat low passed tones. The added fundamental also sounds more organic for reggae bass than trying to use an octave pedal

This works even better with Dirtfixer in the secret preamp mode (nothing in the loop) because you can parallel the contoured blend with another EQed parallel path to fine tune the midrange and treble response. Mixing the two paths allows for a lot of unique options that only an EQ or only a fixed filter wouldn't allow.

I think I need to check the Dirtfixer out. Not that I didn't want to. Always wanted to grab one.

How are your guys' exp with it in a chain with say a Helix Stomp or a Quad Cortex?? Any weird phase issues and or other issues?

Neither of us use any modeling gear but the Damnation contour doesn't flip phase and the loop signal on Dirtfixer and Dirtmixer allows users to flip the polarity because many pedals on the market do flip phase.

Decided to revert to the v1 for one of my boards. It’s got “something” that I prefer over the 2 (I haven’t tried the 3). I don’t mind the big box…easier for fat fingers and failing eyes.

On account of less than stellar low light vision, I opted to swap out the knobs for ones I thought complemented the design aesthetic, but with indicators that were a bit easier to see….

That "oxblood" version is still one I lust after.
I remember seeing them on the website for a while, but never pulled the trigger.

The 1 is still a go-to for me.
Love all 3 iterations.
But the 1 is it.

I just did a quick plot of blend 100%, drive 0%, volume/tone 50% on the MDB (NOTE: I don't completely trust the amplitudes here, need to mess with this tool a bit more. NOTE 2: there might be an issue with the test signal, so I'll try this gain later too):

It's been pointed out to me that the test signal doesn't seem right, so I'll retest later and get something hopefully more accurate

bypassed signal. Which is where the error in the test signal is, it shouldn't be rolling off at 100hz
