If you have the blend control all the way down then the Bloop is just functioning as a true bypass loop for the Ultrawave. Clean blend doesn't sound great with everything. Sometimes it benefits the overall sound. Sometimes you just want things to be fully wet.

Awesome thanks for that. I have a question regarding the Bloop. Recently i have been using my Bloop with my Ultrawave. I use mine with my phase switch down and the control all the way counter clockwise. I read that the control adds in the clean level but is this really the case of just using it from zero to full? With mine there seems to be a sweet spot instead? Maybe im using it wrong?? haha. It seems to me at 'zero' it sounds best.

Have you tried it in a full band mix? That’s where I find it works best. In the bedroom on its own I can sometimes have trouble appreciating the effect that the bloop has

I downsized my board recently but have gone back to the full board with a new perspective so i have tried it live and it sounded good. I think it will sound better though now, i had some phase issues that i was unaware off (still sounded good though)

I took a chance on purchasing the Ashmaker from a place that sells used pedals in the Pacific Northwest. I liked what I heard on the Bass reviews. I am hoping it will mix great with my Rusty box and MBD. I have only seen one person on here that had used it in their pedal chain. If someone can tell me if it will work in my Metal/Sludge band, I will be happy. Anyone use this Ashmaker pedal yet?

After getting out the pile of Damnation boxes this morning for a pose, I plugged into the looped Curmudgeon. It’s been a while - what a gnarly pedal! That thing is seriously underrated.

Curmudgeon is pretty awesome, I had for a few years but ended up perging it, relunctantly.. I also had the Damnation Audio Ugly Twin. Then they discontinued it for the Spite Box. I will get that one someday soon. I listened to it, and the Ashmaker, and chose the Ashmaker instead. Should be in my mailbox today.

I like the ashmaker a lot. Will probably work wonders for you stacked with that setup, I usually pair it with a fuzz to go over the top with gain. It’s definitely more in the overdrive camp than fuzz/distortion IMO

It has a different feel than the 1/2, due to the updated clean blend.

Still need to test some other basses with it, but I think I prefer the 1/2 for low gain tones, and the 3 I feel is more suited for raunchier sounds.

My gear has been shuffled around due to an impending move, but I need to put all three together for a more thorough and honest assessment.

I thought I’d always feel the 1 was “the one” for me. But now that I’ve been using the 3 for a min, I went to the 1 last week after not using it for a while. And I gotta tell y’all, I really dig the 3. I can’t say more than the 1 as of yet. I think my ears have just acclimated to it. So that’s probably most of it. They both rock butts either way regardless.

And I gotta tell y’all, I really dig the 3. I can’t say more than the 1 as of yet. I think my ears have just acclimated to it. So that’s probably most of it. I know there are some subtle differences between the 1 & 2, but I group them together since they're way more alike than different - especially in a mix. So I generally group the sounds together based on the original and new ("Contoured") blend. i.e. The MBD-1, MBD-2, and Bloop are one 'sound' as far as the blend goes, while the MBD-3, Fixer, and Mixer are another.

My layman's answer on which is best is distilled down to the following. Do you want some added low-mid/mid punch? Or do you want more subs/lows with unaffected mids? The former is the 'classic' blend pedals, and the latter is the 'contoured' blend pedals. Sure, there is more to it when you consider feature sets, etc. But I think figuring out your blend preference is a key starting point, because they feel and sound different in a mix.

I have 2 Bloops, 2 MBD-2s, an MBD-3, and a Dirt Fixer. I have some uses for the latter two, but after trialing the contoured blend I prefer the classic blend for my sound. So the Bloop and MBD-2 are on my board.

The hand-wired MBD-1 is my favorite. Although, the differences are almost negligible in a mix and playback, at least through my setup. So, I've ended up using both the MBD2 and 3 for different settings. Plus, stacking dirt/fuzz into the MBD(3) and then kicking on the Boost is like driving a bass truck into awesome town. ..I also still like Jeff's "Contour" description best: same lows, less clack. The added clarity is a much more cohesive sound. Which, is why I prefer the DirtMixer over the Bloop & Mammoth Tamer now. It sounds like an extension of whatever I'm using it with. IMO, YMMV, etc

Don’t let that put you off. I use the AionFX TS50B preamp in the loop of the dirtfixer and it RULES for clangy clacky tone. Idk about your setup but I use an aluminum neck bass with a tweeter in my cabinet to get the extra upper midrange harmonic presence alongside the TS50B. I really like shellac

Oh, don't get me wrong - I've successfully used the MBD3 and Dirt Fixer in my setup. I just prefer that little mid bump and extra bit of low-mid punch that the bloop/MBD-2 adds. I agree that the new contoured blend sounds more 'seamless' and part of whatever you blend it with. I just like the flavor the old blend adds in my setup. I'm also using a jazz with both pickups wide open. So the added/reinforced mids gives a touch more power where the jazz bass 'scoop' is when you run them wide open.

I still have my OG bloop but I haven’t used it for a while. It didn’t play well with all the newer digital modeling I added over the years. I need to try it again though because I use a much more cleaner and powerful power system now (ciosk). So it may work better now…

Imo the 2 is the one that sticks out of the 1 and 3 that’s most different. Not sure how and why. It sounds more “brittle” to my ears. Ain’t bad at all. Just different. Need to mess with it again as well. Been a while. Same with the dist2/crum.
