Damnation Audio Fan/Appreciation Thread

scorpion is very underrated. I think I just prefer the get and non-fender tone stack.

The catch is that now you have to buy the rest of the Damnation audio lineup once you realize how good they are :cigar:

kidding but not kidding. Spite Box, Curmudgeon 2, and the Dirt Fixer are my baseline for comparing other pedals. I have comfortably downsized my bass dirt collection since : )

I really really liked the MBD2 I had. I just ended up preferring something else for my low gain needs and it wasn't quite mid forward enough for my main overdrive needs - the enhanced low end that it does also didn't work for me for that particular purpose. It did work great as a high gain drive though, but I again ended up preferring my Civil War muff, because it sounded more articulate in the mix, pushed the phaser better, worked a bit better with the delay for sweeps etc. Still, super versatile and killer dirt pedal.

They’re different from each other for sure. The closest comparison IMO is that the spite box with no octave blended in sounds a little similar to the curmudgeon with the depth switch on, but even then there’s a slight difference in how they feel when you strike a note

spite box feels like a fuzz, it sags more and doesn’t have the same controlled attack that the curmudgeon can accomplish with the depth switch off. Compared to other fuzzes though, I like the spite box more than the average muff pedal. I would stack a muff with a superfuzz to get those tones before

In short, Curmudgeon = Palm mute chugga chugga, good for verses & reinforcing the girth from your instrument in a mix
Spite box = liquid sustain lead chaos, perfect for fuzz needs & sounding like Sunn O)))

HOWEVER - I think the curmudgeon 2 greatly benefits from being put in a mixer, or boosting the hell out of your amp. With all devices at unity gain, the curmudgeon will cut some sub bass out of your sound similar to playing with a high pass filter. That is the secret sauce to how it stays so clear and defined without overloading.
The depth switch on adds more low end to the input of the circuit, resulting in more total low end, but also can sacrifice the definition of your note attack, so I place it in the DirtFixer or the Bloop and blend in clean lows underneath the tight foundation that the curmudgeon provides

Awesome thanks for that. I have a question regarding the Bloop. Recently i have been using my Bloop with my Ultrawave. I use mine with my phase switch down and the control all the way counter clockwise. I read that the control adds in the clean level but is this really the case of just using it from zero to full? With mine there seems to be a sweet spot instead? Maybe im using it wrong?? haha. It seems to me at 'zero' it sounds best.

If you have the blend control all the way down then the Bloop is just functioning as a true bypass loop for the Ultrawave. Clean blend doesn't sound great with everything. Sometimes it benefits the overall sound. Sometimes you just want things to be fully wet.
